There has to be some major difference between my setup because I need 11.1 v to fly and others are doing fine on 7.4 to 8.4 v. And I'm not in Ablq like Dave. I'm wondering if my gear mesh is too tight, but I don't think I can make it any looser and still fly.

Temperature also effects air density. What's it like in Phoenix now?

We haven't hit the 100 deg weather yet. I expect we will see that by June. I'm mostly flying after sundown. Temps have been in the mid 70s in the late evening which can feel chilly with the low humidity we have. It has been warming up some so 80s and 90s are going to be more like it. With the low humidity, I've discarded the idea about thin air. There must be something else happening.

Thanks for you input, though.
Jerry

its pretty nice right now in phoenix... temp is usually high 80's maybe low 90's depending on the time of day.

helojerry.. what part of town are you in? i see one of my neighbors tinkering with bigger gas helis in his garage. that would trip me out if it was you! lol. i mon the west side, olive&101 ish.

Yep. It has been a nice Spring , but Summer is nearly here.

I'm in the NW also near 43rd Ave and Union Hills. No, if you're hear nitro engines, that's not me. I have nitro on my planes, but I have only the Falcon in the rotary dept right now. I'd like to get the planes out again, but my radio gear is pre 1991 basically discards except maybe for some servos. The flying bug is biting hard, but I won't do much with that until after summer now.

For now, I've got to get good enough on the Falcon to fly in the LR, because there is no A/C in the garage!!!

I'm not breaking anything else at that pace, well other than tail motors Actually I'm on roughly flight 30 with my current tail motor and it's still going pretty well.

Hey, guy!

What tail motors are you using? Are you getting the Century motors from Tower Hobbies?

Also, I guess I need to consider doing the tail boom stretch to make it easier on the tail motor. How did you do that and how did you manage to keep the CG from moving too much?

Jerry,
i use the eflight CPP tail motor. it's more powerful than the stocker for sure. Still using the stock gear back there though. As far as COG problems they will be a factor. I ended up taping a quarter into the nose of the canopy and running the battery as far forward as the canopy will allow. I end up with a good CG that way. I have a LoongMax 1200mah battery on the way which will allow me to loose the quarter and slide the battery back a little. My 900mah lipos I use currently weigh in at 49g this new batt weighs in at 89g. i'm looking to be able to adjust the COG to balanced when hover training and a bit forward for FFF. I think this is the ticket. Highly reccomend the 12" boom. The tail motor spins at noticably lower RPM than before.

Disney,
Congrats. girl is very lovely and so it the heli! Both very exciting!

Disney, congrats on both! I bet you can't wait to teach the Grand Daughter to fly! Are you reading the Belt CP manual to her for a bedtime story?

congrats disney, but i just got my new century motor leads soldered on and got the diode on. but when i got done i plugged the battery directly into the motor and it turned pretty slow then the wires got hot and a little smoke came from somewhere. i used the little red dots on the one side of the motor as the polarity. is there something i might have done wrong that would have brought this about, or something easily i could fix to get it to work
