Here's one for you fellas, I'm flying the Falcon along minding my own buisness, in a good stable 4 feet off the ground hover and all of a sudden I lost power to the main, did a nice piro and then it fell out of the air. I have been flying this 4-in-1 for a year and have never had a problem. I didn't hit anyhting or stall the blades so I didn't expect the mosfet to be bad. I removed the 4-in-1 anyway because I couldn't get power to the main, opened it up expecting to see the tell-tell volcano in the mosfet; nope the mosfet was laying in the bottom of the case, no volcano in it, just looks like it fell off the board. Is it possible to melt the solder off the mosfet and not do any damage to it?

Jerry,
i use the eflight CPP tail motor. it's more powerful than the stocker for sure. Still using the stock gear back there though.

They have these at my LHS for $11 which is OK. I looked at them and the output shaft/pinion combination is considerably shorter than the stock motor, ie the gear does not protrude as far from the body as the stock version. I wasn't sure if this would work for me or not. Also, the case size is exactly the same as the stock. Does this sound like the same thing you're using?

One other issue with the tail boom mod: I have the stock frame and landing gear and I can't remove the stock tail boom from the frame. She's glued in there I think. I may have to cut the boom off and then drill it out in order to replace it maybe. I can remove the tail motor holder OK by removing the retaining screw. I can pull the wiring harness out either. Once again, I think maybe there is some glue holding that in there as well. Worse case, I guess I could cut the wires about an inch from the connector and splice on some new ones. No big deal there I guess.

Jerry, the Century tail motors have a shorter shaft also. What I did was to turn the large gear around and reinstall it. If you look at the large gear on the tail you will notice that it has a shoulder on each side in the center. The shoulder is longer on one side than the other so depending on which way you install it you can make it closer to the boom or further away from the boom accommodating different shaft lengths on the motor.

I am so frustrated. No matter what I do, I cannot locate the source of the interference. I had a bad crash, and of course I don't have a specific part (rotor head ring). I replaced the servos, receiver, antenna lead, but occasionally I get interference that's so bad it becomes unflyable. Other times, it seems rock solid. Other than someone near me that has the same frequency that flies at the same times I do, I don't know what to do.

So it sounds like you've replace everything on the heli side? And you checked you TX antenna, opened it up and checked the bolt on the antenna (and it's connection). Is it just with the servos, or do you see glitches with the main and tail motor (I can't remember what you've said).

-Dave

With regard to interference, what is everyone doing with the antenna? I still have mine wrapped around the right skid, but that is a terrible thing for getting a good signal and avoiding interference. Wrapping it around the tail boom is out because of the electrical noise generated by the drive to the tail motor.

Evening Bones:
I just sent a 4 in 1 to Dknovick that had the same problem. Missing mofset. Never found the part. He put a new one in it for me. All fixed, better than new.

I've been seeing them, they look good, are fairly cheap and pretty sturdy. Where'd you get yours? Every place I looked was out of stock

They were sold out a few days ago, now they have 3 in stock.

I have not have any problem with the mosfet on the Walkera 4#1 4in1. I own several DF4#1 which are the same as Falcon 40 but I believe the quality is different. I can sell a 4in1 to anybody who has this 4in1 burn out problem. Cost is $15 plus $5 shipping. PM me if you are interested.

Morning Broggy:
Yes the F-40 is feeling somewhat neglected, but not because of the Belt, We have a new Grand Daughter, and our daughter lives with us, so the livingroom is not a good place to fly. And I do not have a garage. So I only fly outside. But I am not flying anything right now as I broke the Belt and am waiting on a Rotor Core. And it is very windy here lately.

Have A Great Day

When do you think we can teach your granddaughter to fly? Good thing you still have the F40!

All the best to you and your family!

Jerry - Chuck is exactly right. There are two different size sholders on the gear. Just turn it around for shorter shaft. That's how I run mine. As far as the tail goes you may have glue particularly if you haven't been the only owner of the falcon. If it came from the factory there will be no glue in there. You may have to get on it with a pair of pliers. I did the first time I had to replace mine. It did eventually come out with some force. I don't think you'll have any luck in drillilng it. I have tried several times drilling that nd other parts and it's just really tough to get it in and straight. I'm not saying it can't be done just more pain than it's worth considering a new fram cost $7.50 and Michael has them buy one get one fairly often. Silly I know but be sure you've pulled the screw holding the tail in place. The wires in there may not have glue on them. I find mine are all but impossible to get out until I pull the tail off then they will come right out. They just get hung up right at the tail box and then again where they enter the frame just in back of the tail. If you can get the tail off you will be able to get them out. Then again if you are planning on putting a longer boom on you'll have to make a new tail set anyway. Just cut em about an inch behind the connector and solder new wires on (No sense in wasting a perfectly good connector). Make sure that the splice and heat shrink stop short of where they go into the tail. It won't fit in there. Trust me I made that mistake when I replaced my tail the first time and broke my tail wire, had to cut the wires again and resplice them closer up to the connector.
