Ok, I know I am new at this, but tried to remove the crystal on my receiver to clean the contacts, does this thing come out? I was pulling on it, but did not want to force it. I noticed replacement receivers do not come with the crystal, so it must come out.?????

I am a newbie to this site and i wondered if anyone could help me out with the Falcon 40.  Just to give you some history,  I recently purchased  the heli about a month ago from xheli.  Trying to go the cheap way out,  I ordered the barebones kit.  Afterwards, I had to buy servos motors and a reciever.  I didnt realize that there no stores in South Carolina that carry Falcon 40 spare parts, so instead of waiting for parts to ship from California I tried to piece it out  with the parts available at my local hobby store. I did eventually order a reciever from xheli, but  I instead purchased two Eflite servos, an Eflite 3 in 1 and the Eflite  370 motor with a 10T pinion gear used with the Blade CP from my local hobby store. I didnt buy the transmitter for the Falcon 40 either.  I have an ESKY lama V4, so I used the 4-channel transmitter and the reciever part of the Lama 4 in 1 that came with it.   I later  installed all of these parts along with a 7.4V 1000Mah lipo pack.  I finally got the Falcon 40  in flight, but I noticed I wasn't getting enough lift, so I made a 11.1V 1000Mah lipo out of old 7.4V lipos I had.. With the 11.1V,  I noticed I had the lift I needed and after that I flew with no problems. Then yesterday I was flying and then all of the sudden I started doing pyros I could correct and then I crashed. I quickly ran to my heli and I noticed a stinch of electrical circuits. Of course it was the 3 in 1 and one of the chips burned up. Very upset I accepted the fact my EFlite  3 in 1 was ruined but I had my Falcon 40 reciever on standby.  I quickly installed it and I plugged everything up then all of the sudden I kept seeing the red LED flash on my 4 in 1. All of my trim is in the middle, except for my throttle trim which is all the way down. My crystals are not damaged and the throttle switch on my Esky transmitter is in the NOR position. I cannot understand why my 4 in 1 is not giving me the green light? Is it because the ESKY transmitter doesnt work with a Falcon 40 reciever? I used my old Esky transmitter and reciever with an EFlite 3 in 1 and it worked fine until it burned up. I think if I had known about the fuse mod I could have saved the EFlite 3 in 1; however, I dont know why I cant get the Falcon 40 to work. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have had that same problem. The crystal does come out. The contacts can be tight . Just work with it.  It will come loose.

Thanks. I thought that might be the problem. I guess I will have to order a Falcon 40 transmitter.

Does anyone know what pitch are the blades that come with the Falcon 40? I am assuming there 9 degree. Would a 10 pitch blade give me more lift at  50% throttle?

Not only is Jim correct that that the Falcon stuff is unique, but the radio for the Lama 4 is 2.4ghz, the Falcon is 72 mhz. No way can you mix them in any fashion.
Jim and I were talking about this a while back, we're both kind of interested in making the Falcon 2.4. I contacted Esky and was told the receiver for the Lama won't work in the Falcon even with the Lama transmitter. What you might consider is contacting Esky and see if you can order the reciever for the new Honeybee fp 2.4.
http://www.twf-sz.com/english/products.asp?prodid=0325
That receiver should work with the transmitter for the Lama 4. Esky was very quick to respond to my question, worth asking them. I have the Lama 4 and I've been thinking about it myself.
Don't know about blade pitch, I've only used factory for the mains.

Edit - whenever possible order parts from ushobbysupply.com. Michael will give you a better deal than xheli and he handles any problems that may come up. He's one of us, and he takes care of us. Much better place to deal with. Send an email with the blades question and he'll give you an honest answer and what blades to use.

Thanks for the advice. You were mistaken when you said my  Esky Lama V4 is 2.4 Ghz. I know that Esky sells a 2.4Ghz transmitter and reciever, but I have the older version 72Mhz transmitter and reciever. But, anyways, I am going to buy a Falcon 40 transmitter so I can use the Falcon 40 (4-in-1).  I would love to convert my Lama V4 to 2.4 GHz but the Lama plastic gears break so easily that I dont want to waste anymore money on it.

Well I will tell you one thing. The Falcon 40 is just like a tank. I think it can withstand a lot for what it is.

I have a falcon 40 and am having problems with getting it to turn right or left....I think the servo is messed  up but dont know much about them. I had a good crash yesterday and since then I can hear the gear running continuously inside the servo. Is this normal. Also, since exceedrc.com is out of standard servos I was wondering if there is someplace else to look or another type of servo I could buy. As I am a novice to this whole RC Heli fun, I would appreciate any input you may have.....like how to get it off the ground and practice hoovering. I cant seem to just get it up a few feet without crashing so I give it lots of throatle and try to get it back down to practice hoover....say the least, my trees have become its second home.

Installed the direct drive kit but all it does is hover to the left like I am giving it left cyclic. Is this because I put the direct drive tail on the other side? Do I need to reverse the Gyro/receiver to compensate for this?

akandys,
Buy the HS-55 servos from Hitech. They are 15$ each and much better. Also use the servo horns that they come with. Sounds like yours stripped already, mine did the same.

akandys, Might I suggest the sg90 servos sold by Michael at www.ushobbysupply.com. He is a heli pilot, and is very knowledgeable about our hobby. Also you cannot beat his prices, his quick shipping, and his customer service is beyond reproach. I have had the sg90 in my falcon for about 8 months, and they have preformed great. Also the sg90 are $6.50 each. Also check out his complete stock of falcon parts. Most of us use Michael whenever we can. He's the best. Good luck and fly safe, Jim

Are the sg90s a direct replacement for the stock servos? Do you need to change any of the switches on the transmiter?

The tail rotor should only make it rotate left and right.
All helis will drift, the Falcon wants to go left, especially on liftoff. It the pull to the left is extreme, check the trim. Look at it from behind and the rotor head should be level, or maybe tilted just a little to the right. Also check the rotor core - if it's cracked or broken it can make it pull REAL hard left.

I use the HS55, and I gotta say the SG90 looks like a much better deal.
Get a simulator. You can download the free FMS sim from the downloads section at USHobbySupply, or buy one. I use clearview - http://rcflightsim.com/ Theres also the RealFlight sim available from Tower and most hobby shops. Realflight comes with a controller. The others don't, you either use the Falcon transmitter (It's a pain to make it work, and it has to be turned on and eating batteries) or get the Esky controller - https://www.ushobbysupply.com/product_info.php?cPath=47&products_id=518&osCsid=64155e32599ef5ff63595ba0a03461a6

Paul -
If memory serves the flybar is .078. I bought a 3ft piece of music wire at the local hobby shop and cut a piece the same length. I'm not sure if it added to stability like others have claimed, I could barely hover for more 10 seconds at the time, but it won't break.

Larry,
I found some drill rod $2.15 for a 3' peice .078" . you pick it up at Fastenal. I know this stuff is tuff. I used to use this stuff for pins in jigs.

Ok, here is my take on the CNC rotor core. So far it has worked fantastic. Rotor assembly has stabilized considerably, and the blade assembly seems to pop off with no other apparent damage. Next upgrade will be a direct drive tail motor, then that is it for this one. I am ordering a Blade 400 for my next helicopter. I will use that at home, and keep my Falcon down here is So. America.

I posted this in another thread but I was told to post in this thread....

I have a Falcon 40 that I've been trying to learn to fly and now it won't even hover.  I've heard that the batteries that come with the heli don't last too long but I was also told I might just need to clean out the motor.  Once I get some dust cleaner I'll spary that into the motor.  Until, does anyone else have other ideas.  I actually have not flown the heli that much but used to be able to hover for a few second but now it won't get off the ground at all.

I am new at this, but have been able to achieve stable hovers, forward, backward and side to side. I had a problem with mine not being able to get off the ground, upgraded to the 1300 7.4V Lipo, and guess what? Still would not get off the ground. Changed main motors and the first try jumped off the ground. Two things I do with my main motors, 1. Make sure the manufacturers decal is not covering one of the cooling slots, which mine was. 2. Spray contact cleaner in the slots, let it set for a few minutes then run it.

One other note, I was fighting this thing, twitching tail, I had installed a new tail motor as a preventative maintenance measure. I had received a bad tail motor from NitroPlanes. I reinstalled the old tail motor and as is well.  Word of advice, if you buy from Nitro, and do not have good results, chalk it up to a bad experience and do not order from them again. I received several emails from Nitro assuring they would address my claims ASAP. The last communication from Nitro was a week ago. They actually sent me servos that had been previously installed.

Danny
