Yes that right that is the best or common way to check gear meshing. I was going to sagest that but you figured it out on your own remember lock tight on the motor screws. Lock tight every thing take a dip in the blue

Ok, have all my spare parts ready for my next trip to So. America, am taking a set of the Kyosho M24 blade with me. I went through the entire last trip without having to replace a set of blades, or any other parts.

Now for the Belt CP I received. After looking at it, flying it, and reveiwing all the posts and recommendations, all the upgrades that need to be done to make it more reliable/enjoyable, I have decided to eBay it and upgrade to the e-flite Blade 400, it anything for the Spektrum Dx6i radio, a true HH gyro and direct to swash mounting of the servos. So when I return I will have my Belt boxed up, it does have a few spare parts, and will let all know when I list it.

Nice! My Falcon got away from me, and I had a hard landing and broke my frame, it's been a while since I had to take everything off, so it was a good exercise.

Does anyone know how to set the DIP switches on a  Exceed Falcon 40/Walkera #4  72Mhz 4 ch transmitter  or does anyone have a manual for this transmitter?
I want to use Mode 2 with the THR/RUD are on the left stick and AIL/ELE are on the right stick.

The DIP switches won't change the mode of the transmitter. Almost all US transmitters are Mode 2.

I think you bought this bird barebones and had to install your own servos? Be aware that some servos will run backward on the falcon and need to be reversed. Which servos did you use?

Thanks for the help. The problem that I am having now is with my tail. When I move my left stick to the left to control my tail the tail motor gets slower, however, when I move the left stick to the right the tail motor spins faster. I need the opposite to happen. When I move my left stick to the left I want my tail motor to spin faster and when I move it right I want the tail to spins slower.

Your falcon is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.  Remember,  you are controlling the direction that the nose of the heli is pointing, not the tail.  Something you need to start doing right now in the learning curve, is to concentrate on the nose and not the tail.  Sure, you have to fly the tail on a falcon 40, but don't be concerned with which way it is pointing, you want to concentrate on which way the nose is pointing.  After all, that is the direction that the heii will be flying.  Hope this helps some.

Jim

As I sit around waiting for some new blades for my falcon, I'm trying to search around to learn as much as I can about my new hobby.

I found this great article that helped me demystify the whole servo feature and numbers thing, and figured I'd post it if it can help some others

That's a nice description of servos (and their variations).

Does anyone know how to set the proportion on the Falcon 40 receiver?  Before I lift off my top blades spins very fast and it causes my tail to spin clockwise. I have to fight the tail to the right in order to hover off the ground, but if I let go of the tail it will spin CW out of control creating pyros while in the air. Any help would be appreciated.

souf - My first thought is the tail motor is failing.

Our buddy Navy did a great job of summing up that receiver adjustment here page 274

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4826535/anchors_8044641/mpage_274/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8044641

Dock -

The falcon is a great trainer. It can take a real beating, and repairs are cheap. It's not as stable as a more expensive collective would be, but repairs are much cheaper, and it's much easier to set up.

Dock-

I've had some luck using a coax (lama 4) along with a sim to train my hands/brain on stickmovement. But I have read lots of other people say a coax is a waste of money, so I think it's a case by case thing.

At the bottom right of the page is a search this thread option, very helpful. Search for and do the fuse mod. Basics are put a 7 to 10 amp automotive blade fuse on the main motor and a 3 to 4 amp on the tail. It protects the receiver.
Also look into superskids.
And the cnc rotor core from ushobbysupply.com.

Aside from those, the parts I break most are main blades and mainframe.

Hey Jim. I'm kind of in and out. Winter is here in the NW - had a crappy summer weather wise and now flying days will be hard to come by.

Two ways to adjust the tail. Turing the pot on the 4in1 receiver (do you have the v1 or the v2 Falcon 40?) is suppose to do something. I haven't seen it do anything. There is also the trim sliders on the transmitter. Those actually do something. Keep moving the trim over until the heli stops rotating.

I think you can learn _something_ from doing just about anything. A coax won't teach you how to hover, but like you said, you can get your head wired for tail in, side in and nose in hovering.

UShobby supply also sells a fuse mode if you don't want to do it yourself.
++1 on the superskids

I've also broken:
flybar
get extra bearings (if your rotor head pops off, you could loose the bearings)
You'll probably strip the gears on the stock servos.
