Hi, I just purchased the Falcon 40 v2 a few days ago from xheli.com. It is scheduled to be here friday. I flew model airplanes for years so hopefully moving to helis will not be too hard. I have logged many hours in FMS if it makes any difference. I plan on upgrading to a direct drive tail motor and superskids asap. I would also like to get a lipo battery and charger. What battery do you recommend for the best/longest flight time/performance?

The v2 comes with a 2S Lipo battery. FMS is ok as a first start, but it doesn't have a very good dynamic model. As karlik says, it will take a while to reprogram you to fly helis (and break all your bad plank habbits! )

Did you get the Flight Simulator training kit from Xheli as well?

I use a 3S 850mAh lipo on my V1, and I get 10-15 minutes of flight time.

-Dave

No, but im sure i can download it somewhere. What is it called? and will my tx come with the cable to connect to the computer. Also, what is the range on these things. The planes I flew were pretty much as far out as i could see them but I heard these have a shorter range.

The kit is a cable that attaches from the trainer port in your TX to your computer. No worries, I see the UShobbysupply carries them.

I can't say about the range, this little guy gets pretty small, pretty quick, so you're not going to want to let it get too far away before you loose it's orientation.

For learning how to hover, lots of us recommend Radd's School of Rotary Flight

I think he's asking is if the falcon transmitter will work with the sim?

I did get the Falcon version 1 transmitter to work but I don't remember how I did it. It did need to be powered up and eating batteries. I use the esky transmitter - https://www.ushobbysupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=518

It's pretty much plug and play and works great. This is the radio that comes with the training kit Dave mentioned.

FMS simulator is barely ok - better than nothing. Realflight and Phoenix are the two best and cost a bit. Between those two is clearview. Not quite as realistic as realflight, but way better than fms. And the honeybee fp that comes with clearview feels very much like the falcon.
http://rcflightsim.com/

I've never timed my batteries and to be honest it's very seldom I fly a full pack non stop. I'm still working on the different hover options and I do a lot of touch n goes too so almost never just run a battery out in one flight.

thanks for the info. I will be heading to the LHS in a day or two to see if I can get parts locally. Maybe I can pick up a battery too

We have 2 LHS's here. One is aircraft, and has almost nothing for the falcon. They are more into bigger nitro helis. The other does mostly cars, and has a few motors, screws, etc that will fit. They carry a few parts for the honeybee for some reason, not sure how it ties into cars? But, the price there is actually higher than Michael charges even after shipping, so unless it's an emergency, I still order from him.

Navy, you're right. I did use ppjoy, but still had trouble making it work. And it would just quit overnight and next day I'd have to set it all up again. I know lots of guys have only minor problems with it, but it was major pain for me.

Saw this the other day and first person I thought of was you. Political cartoons always seem to be a burn on one political party or another, or a specific politician. It was a real surprise to see one like this (originally published for veterans day) that has an appropriate and meaningful message, so I'll link it here for all the vets.

Oops, your right. I was thinking it was just the cable, not the whole transmitter. As karlik says, if you use the falcon transmitter, you'll need to have it one, and with the esky transmitter, it takes juice from the usb port.

Hey all, I've been flying my Falcon 40 consistently for about 2months now, and I've noticed in the past 3 or 4 flights my heli barely rises above 4 feet.  I'm not sure if I need to change the main motor or if its the batteries.  I've also noticed its always trying to yaw left and it seems to take more stick input to yaw right.  Is that normal?

As Navy says, it could be the motor or battery. How many flights have you flown in the 2 months? What charger are you using? Check the voltage of the batteries when you take it off the charger. For a charged lipo (it is a lipo?) Each cell should be 4.2V, so a 2S would have 8.4V and a 3S would have 12.6V

Anything happen to the bird? Any crashes.
Just for clarity, by yaw do you mean rotation of the nose?

-Dave

OK - so when you retire we can change it from Navy to Walter?

flyboy - usually the motor, unless something has damaged the batteries like overcharge, overdischarge, crash, etc.

I've flown it maybe about 40 times, no serious crashs but i have banged it up a little in the garage and broke 2 sets of blades since I got it.  I'm using the same battery and charger it came with, no upgrades yet, but I did order another brushed 370 motor from rtf-heli.com.  I'm taking my time on the upgrades
