I too ordered some LiPo's fot the Falcon 40.

I'll post a full update when they come in (anyday now)

Will probably need to modify the stock battery tray 1st.

Should be somewhat lighter than stock 650mAh NiMh pack is

Have fun with the lipos. One word of warning if you're getting a 3-cell. I noticed on my F40, the lowest throttle setting that can make the motor spin is still a bit too fast and abrupt, and so the heli and/or blades will jump/wiggle around a bit until the blades balances themselves out. So be ready for that, if you get what I meant about the slowest throttle being too abrupt.

Reading through these post persuaded me to purchase my Falcon 40. I'd like to thank everyone for sharing their experiences and tips with this model. So, I'd just like to do the same. First off this helicopter flew and was dialed in right out of the box, regardless before I flew it I took it apart and put it back together. After the first day I had it I chopped off the stock landing gear and ziptied T-rex landing skids to the battery tray. It takes more of a beating on hard landing versus the stock skids. I enjoyed flying it like this for the next 2 days with 2 cell lipos(thunder pwr 1320 and fullymax 1350) until the stock motor just couldn't take it off the ground anymore. Replaced that with an old GWS 370 w/ a 12 tooth pinion. I really enjoyed flying this for another 2 days until the 4 in 1 just stopped working as well. The 4 in 1 combo and motor fried at the same time. After that, I purchased the Eflite 370 motor and the Eflite 3 in 1 control unit. I did have to use an external rcvr. I used a micro GWS rcvr. I did keep the 12 tooth pinion on the motor versus the 10 that it came with. Now this is a definitely winning combo here. I also purchased a set of carbon fiber blades, no flex on the blades and smooth and very fast headspeed. Again I really enjoyed flying it like this for about another 2 or 3 days until one of the servos just stopped working. No worries, Replaced them both out with hs-55s. So now I'm back to flying again and I feel it is really dialed in and I got myself a winner and I love all the mods I did to it to make it a more stable, faster headspeed, and NOW much more reliable.

My next project for this will be to replace the 370 with a brushless. What I have in mind right now is the Aurora 300DH or the Himax. I am going to use my same batteries with a Castle Creations ThunderBird 9. If anyone can let me know on what they think about this brushless motor conversion. I'll let you all know how it goes with this conversion and my experiences with it hopefully by next week. In the meantime here are some pictures of how my Falcon 40 has evolved.

wow dude you have made loads of mods to your chopper, i will keep your list in mind coz im replacing the twitchy
4 in 1 that came with the falcon 40

can you provide us a list of all the things you got and some links to find it online??

you still using the same tx??

Which heli next ?

I have 3 weeks of LAMA experience, couple hours of simulator. I can hover and fly outside with the occasional crashing. I can fly with the head toward me as well as away from me. I can counter the wind. I am now thinking about a small Single wing heli. I read from here that the Falcon 40's is very stable and easy to fly but I also hear that most people buy the honey bee, I hear that the Falcon 40 is better than the Walkera 22E. Which one should I get ?

I mainly want to fly out side of my apartment's small deadend street :)

i have an 22e too and they are totally different helis since the falcon 40 is fixed pitch heli
and with the walkera 22e you can even fly inverted lol

but your right, the falcon 40 is very stable heli and i think is a good start after being flying
coaxial helis

Thanks I won't think about flying inverted for a while a least. I am actually thinking about the honey bee / cp2. Is honeybee better than Walkera?

BTW how long did it take you to go from hovering to flying inverted?

I have both the 22E and the Falcon 40 (three of 'em)

Bought the 22E 1st as a cheap trainer heli. BIG MISTAKE. To "Frisky" a model for a beginner. Too many parts to break in a crash.

So I bought the Falcon 40 about 2 months later. Gave up on the 22E for a while. Smart move this time.

Used the Falcon 40 as an easier to fly trainer. Total repairs to date = O cents!!!! Still flying on original motors and battery.

Now I fly the 22E outside in the wind without difficulty, and with confidence.

You wont' have much fun with the 22E in tight quarters. (end of the street I'm assuming)

It begs for fast forward flight with a 11.1 volt Lipo setup.

Get the Falcon 40 now and save up for a TREX 450SA as your bad-to-the-bone rig.

Then keep the Falcon 40 to fly on vacation, trips, inside a hotel lobby???, at work (like me!), wherever you want.

Sorry guys, I got myself a honey bee cp2 just now ! I was thinking hard about the honey bee cp & the honey bee. Man it was hard to make a choice. The Honey Bee CP was so nice. Since this is a CPPM this should be hard. I am paying a lot of respect to it. I let you guys know how my first hover go later.

I just took my Falcon 40 out of the box today and the blades were on super tight. I just want to confirm that the blades are supposed to be loose enough to straighten out durning spin-up. This thing is super sensitive on the controls compared to the Lama V3 and definitely takes some getting used to.

How many of you are able to fly this indoor as I'm having a hard time. Thanks.

I also had to loosen the screws. I think they're tight just for shipping purposes so they don't damage stuff by moving. I have mine just loose enough so they don't flop around (kinda annoying).

I actually enjoyed hovering it right off my carpeted floor (no training gear) RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX (ok so I charged the battery first...:D )! It is so stable compared to my Blade CP and Dark Knight 2CP. It is touchy, but is easy to keep hovering after you set the trims on the radio (which takes maybe a couple of minutes of hovering to figure out). After that, it will not stray too much on its own as long as you keep inputing minor corrections.

I was pleasantly surprised that the gyro proportional and gain were almost spot on from the factory, just a couple clicks of trim and it's almost still.


Let us know if you have any problems with your heli. Keep in mind if it's your first heli or if you're moving up from a counter-rotating rotor heli then it will seem more resposive. I cut my teeth (and wallet) on the twitchy Blade CP.

Is there a way to turn down the gyro sensitivity? I'm getting alot of tail wag and it makes it sort of hard to control. This is my first heli except for a PicoZ; loving it so far. I have three 8C 1300 mAh 7.4v batteries and a charger on the way...cant wait! One more question...what is the best upgrade for the skids? Mine keep breaking at the "T" joint. Yes, the one complaint I do have is the silly carbon-fibre used throughout the fuselage. It may be light, but it is a real nuisance when it cracks or shatters and I have to either replace the entire landing gear just because of one leg snapping off (usually snaps at the plastic skid too!!), or hope that I can ghetto glue it and hold it over for a few more flights. I like the landing gear on the T-Rex 450, similar to my Dark Knight 2's plastic legs; flexible and tough. In a previous posts above someone posted a picture with the T-Rex 450 landing gear modded to the F40's fuselage. Something lighter weight or similar might be a good mod to look into.

The sofa huh...??? OK, I'll buy that....

Its easy, just loosen the philips screw where the paddles meet the flybar (the 2mm carbon rod).

Now unplug the tail and main motor plugs.

You don't want a motor to start spinning all of a sudden and get whacked. (Gee, why did I know that could happen??? Hmm..)

Turn on the transmiter and allow servos/gyro to synch up. You want the flybar to be at its neutral position according to the receivers signal.

With the paddles loose, position each paddle so that it will travel in the same plane as the bottom of the landing gear.

Tighten screws and re-check alignment just in case something shifted while tightening.

Both paddles should line up with each other, if you look horizontally down the flybar from the side.

(Paddles are for control, not lift, so set them level with the horizon for optimum setup. Many people think they have to tilt the paddles for them to work, not so.)

Good luck with the adjsutment. Its not too difficult.

Oh, and don't forget to plug the motors back in.

Hmm...interesting. I could have sworn my Eagle50 and Falcon40 came out of the box with the paddles angled. I will adjust them parallel to the ground (completely horizontal) and see how things work out. Thanks for the info.

Oh, one more question. I see numerous place that says to adjust the main blades but there's nothing holding them in place with the adjustments. There's the one screw but you have to leave it loose enough so the blades will straighten out. Thanks.

Yeah I'm still trying to figure out how to adjust the blades so they track in the same plane. one is slightly higher than the other when I spool the motor up. Due to the way the blades and rotor is set up, I don't know if there is any easy way to adjust them. I hope someone has figured out a way and shares it here. It would help remove some of the vibrations in the heli.

About the flybar paddles; Man those are always getting misaligned if I look at them wrong! Almost everytime I touch them accidently, or have an accident, I have to re adjust them. I have the screws tightened down but the paddles still manage to get out of alignment in a crash. That's the main reason for many of my unstable control issues, and source of vibration.

Also, the little flybar outter weights themselves, I found I have to offset one of them a tad bit, so even though it looks like it will be out of balance, when the heli spools up, the vibrations are reduced. That's just in my case, so check your settings and correct as needed.

Other than heating up the blade and tweaking it a bit, there is no adjustment.

Hnoestly, it doesn't really do much anyhow.

I know, I have 3 Falcon 40's and the first one I flew, I spent a ton of time on dialing it in. I mean, I balanced everything.

I flew it and loved it so I ordered two more. (yeah, I work two jobs, so there !!!!)

Tried an experiment and flew #2 out of the box ( All I did was charge flight pack and break-in motor brushes)

So guess what , #2 flies as good as #1 did.

So, guess what, #3 got the same treatment as #2 and flew good until...

Are you experiencing a terrible vibration? Why the concern for tracking???

Remember this is a fixed pitch heli, with a significantly slower rotor speed, than an Eagle 50 of 22E Walkera.

It's not really bad vibration, just enough so it moves the landing gear every now and then. I guess it's ok. I guess I just want it to "work right." But if it doesn't really make that much of a difference, then I'll fly it the way it is. I just wish the landing gear was made of plastic (replaced and already cracked one leg AGAIN)!

I got the landing skids for the Eagle50 and will modify it to fit on the Falcon40. These skids are much more durable and you cannot beat the price of $6 from RaidenTech.com. I usually try to make my orders over $50 to get free shipping.

On a side note, I forgot how big the Falcon40 was compared to the Lama V3 I've been flying. The weather here in Oklahoma is always windy so I don't get to fly the Falcon40 often. The Lama V3 is a lot of fun for indoor flights.

Forgot to mention that I got the 3e Lipo battery and balancing charger from RaidenTech. The battery works fine on the Falcon40 and the charger is pretty nice. Only downside is you have to supply your own 120V adapter ($12 from Wal-Mart). Definitely longer flight time than the included NiMH battery and it's nice to have two batteries.

It fit just fine. Much more durable than before, sits up higher, easier to take off now, and the canopy is mounted further forward, making it look longer as well. You need to punch in holes about a half inch back from the current mounting points in the canopy to make it fit. However, now it does not latch at the bottom anymore, so it just kind of sits on the bottom pegs. Should fly like that with no problem though. I guess I could make a couple of more slits and try to get it to mount to the pegs on the landing gear. I plan on getting a canopy from another Walkera chopper, but I am unsure of the sizes. I want something that is longer. Would a Walkera 60 canopy work?
