I just woke up. Literally. Got up at 4:00 a.m., Dad and I muttled through the dark to get set up for the 7 a.m. starting time. Sun rose sometime thereafter. Got the unknowns last night. The unknown had a loop with what appeared to be a roll and a half at the bottom. Reading the text, it says rolling loop with one and one half rolls. That was the buzz among the pilots last night after the unknowns were handed out. Everyone seemed to be getting through them ok. That is from what I saw. I came back about 9:30 a.m. and went back to sleep. We drew pilot order last night. I was last alphabetically, guess what, I drew #1. I kept calculating the probability of me getting number 1 and it was, lets say 100% by the time Quique drew his number and I was next, and the only one left was "one". Yesterday when we drove up I saw the turbine YAK flying. I figured Quique was going to fly it, but it was just Warren Thomas taking a test flight to try it out. Quique is flying his YAK's with DA 150's and the Greve's pipes. I'm also running the Greve's pipes with good performance and low noise. Noise. Pat Hartness provided some background on this requirement. At a past Masters (at his old field) he was petitioned by the local neighbors to stop the Masters due to the prop howl. He started to get some concerns from neighbors at the new field. One in particular had mentioned to him about the "Howwwwl.". Thus the rules on sound. This is very pleasant to see. Most are flying 3 blade props and quiet pipes/cannisters. Bernt is flying electric. I believe Chip is also flying electric. Bernt's is performing very well- have not seen Chip fly yet. Needless to say, Pat is very pleased with the results and the technologies that are making low noise and great performance possible. Well, Joseph is hungry to go to Waffle House for some brunch, then back to the field for the Knowns and Freestyle for the day. Don
