I just woke up. Literally. Got up at 4:00 a.m., Dad and I muttled through the dark to get set up for the 7 a.m. starting time. Sun rose sometime thereafter. Got the unknowns last night. The unknown had a loop with what appeared to be a roll and a half at the bottom. Reading the text, it says rolling loop with one and one half rolls. That was the buzz among the pilots last night after the unknowns were handed out. Everyone seemed to be getting through them ok. That is from what I saw. I came back about 9:30 a.m. and went back to sleep. We drew pilot order last night. I was last alphabetically, guess what, I drew #1. I kept calculating the probability of me getting number 1 and it was, lets say 100% by the time Quique drew his number and I was next, and the only one left was "one".

Yesterday when we drove up I saw the turbine YAK flying. I figured Quique was going to fly it, but it was just Warren Thomas taking a test flight to try it out. Quique is flying his YAK's with DA 150's and the Greve's pipes. I'm also running the Greve's pipes with good performance and low noise.

Noise. Pat Hartness provided some background on this requirement. At a past Masters (at his old field) he was petitioned by the local neighbors to stop the Masters due to the prop howl. He started to get some concerns from neighbors at the new field. One in particular had mentioned to him about the "Howwwwl.". Thus the rules on sound. This is very pleasant to see. Most are flying 3 blade props and quiet pipes/cannisters. Bernt is flying electric. I believe Chip is also flying electric. Bernt's is performing very well- have not seen Chip fly yet. Needless to say, Pat is very pleased with the results and the technologies that are making low noise and great performance possible.

Well, Joseph is hungry to go to Waffle House for some brunch, then back to the field for the Knowns and Freestyle for the day.

Start time was announced as 7 a.m. They started about 8:15 this morning. I expect they will start around the same time- allowing time for the warmup pilot, Mr. John Leyland and Mr. George Hicks calling. Chris did very well. He placed I believe 4th in Freestyle. He is down in the overall standings partly due to starting to roll in the wrong direction in a downline of the figure M. It had to be 3 of 4 to the left in order to do the bottom inverted. Also had to stall turn with the wind (in the direction of flight). It was a good unknown. Tomorrow's is not nearly as complicated at first glance, although there is a half rolling circle which makes one want to bring it in than out. There is also a half rolling loop with half integrated roll from the top. Basically enter inverted high, exit inverted low. I was handed the standings as of Round 3 and statiscally it shows me in 3rd. Jason was in 3rd but slipped into fourth after he and Sebastiano appeared to have zeros for their freestyle flight. Quique won the Known and Jason won the Unknown. The scores are very tight within the many skilled pilots flying at the Masters. I believe that Sean is in 5th and Bernt is in 6th.

By the way Mark Earl is in 2nd after day one. Unknown # 2 .Ok lets enter the box from the right mid level upright. Half outside loop, integrate a half roll at the transition point then half outside loop to complete the vertical 8. 2 point roll left, neg snap right (the plane always snaps cleaner negative to the right), then 3/4 outside loop and two negative snaps on the downline exit upright to finish the figure "P". Reverse cuban 8 with 2 point roll on first leg, 2 of 4 on second leg and neg snap on third leg. Ty- thanks for practicing those negative snaps last weekend, they should come in handy. Then the half rolling circle. Do I bring it in or take it out? This morning the wind was howling up there early- calm on the ground but blowing strong out and from the right aloft. It always does that around sunrise then it calms down later in the morning. If it does this tomorrow definitely want to bring the one half roll circle with one outside roll toward the flight line. This will set up the three of 4 point reversed. Dave Lockhart would appreciate this since it was in the pattern sequence for F3A a year or two ago.

Then the half rolling loop with one half roll down. That's all I can remember and I'm going to be taking the rest of the evening off to get some sleep. That is if Dad can write it out soon. Joseph is really excited. He got a signed hat from SEBA. Now he has to get caught up on homework.

Rambling,
Don

Bershorner's Raven has got to be the coolest electric aircraft I've ever seen, The motor is inside the spinner and it uses three separate blades attached to the motor.
