Status: offline 		I recently bought a viper with a ThunderTiger 40 pro. Currently Im' using the stock muffler and a 9*6 APC prop, and the motor is running very reliable. Somebody told me that I could increase the engine's performance by up to 2000 rpm just by using a different muffler. I heard that the Macs tuned muffler or the Nelson Ultrathrust muffler are good options, but also the very affordable Tower Hobbies muffler. I'm not into racing, just wanna play around with the motor and find the best setup.

Status: offline 		I have the Nelson Ultra tune pipe on my Pred 2 with a TT pro engine . I believe it,s as fast as it,s going to go. It cost 60 dollars from Performance Specialist.

Status: offline 		Has anybody heard anything about the Tower Hobbies Muffler?? I heard it gives u a performance increase of about 1000 rpm which is pretty awesome considering it only costs lil over 15 bucks!!!

Status: offline 		Have you already take out the cone inside the Standard TT Pro 40 muffler, this gives you like 1,000 RPM.

Status: offline 		I slapped on a GMS muffler ($20cdn) on my TT .40 Pro and am getting about 1500 extra rpm. I bought mine locally but I think they are also available through Tower Hobbies.

I use the Tower mlfflers on the TT Pro 40 for break-in to let the engine turn up a little more. They do give about 750-1000 more with a 9x6.

The problem is that they are even harder to keep together than the TT Pro 40 muffler is. I have been using Permatex® Ultra Black® Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker to keep mufflers together. But I have had a couple of Tower mufflers come apart even with the gasket maker. They did not lose any parts, but they did break the seal. I did not use all-thread rod to hold them together. I need to. And I may try JB Weld again instead of the gasket maker.

Status: offline 		If you use the Tower Muffler use JB Weld on the foints and through bolt to keep it together. It will also seal these joint to prevent the exhaust residue from blowing out. I first tried the JB weld to keep the rear piece from rotating and now use it on all mufflers. Just figure out which directions you want the stinger pipe to point before the JB sets up as it will be permanent.

Status: offline 		The JB Weld will also prevent overtightning of the through bolt and causing it to break. Overtightened bolts have cost many people lots of money. I once lost the rear piece of on os that would have cost $40 to replance. That is almost as much as some engines. OH well live and learn or learn and live, what ever.

Status: offline 		Buzz is right. FWIW, I've been gluing them together with JB Weld and relying on the through-bolt ONLY as a backup device. That is, I don't tighten the through-bolt very tightly at all.

I think the reason these mufflers come apart is that when they're assembled, there's already a lot of tension on the through-bolt. Then the muffler gets hot and expands, which increases the tension until the through-bolt finally snaps. And since there isn't anything else holding the back half of the muffler on, it usually gets lost.

Gluing the parts together with JB Weld is a good semi-permanent (maybe permanent) method of holding the parts together. But if the JB Weld fails, the through-bolt is still there to keep the parts in the same county until you get a chance to fix it.

Status: offline 		...JB Weld, a 6 in. long 6-32 all-thread bolt and nuts, AND a couple of "pins" to keep the muffler shells from coming apart... see pic

Status: offline 		I don't know if playing cards can take the heat at the muffler or not. I would think it would get too hot and burn as this is the gottest part of a glow engine.
