Nightwalker -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/9/2006 2:53:39 AM)

K guys, I know I'm hogging up the thread, here.......................I'm about to jet.............I'm running a bit late...............last few pics and I'm out.........

Now.........................the Supa............

For those of you who saw the Harrier landing.................the jet now has four flights on it.............It had three with a JR-10x Receiver and then I switched all of my birds to the Weatronics receivers (which are awesome, totally worth every penny.) Well, of course with dual batteries, more weight etc, the CG and everything had to be redone.............(Thanks again Dave P) The bird flew like it was on rails..........same as before, very very happy with this jet. Then comes the landing.........................well once again.............in a rush to get back in the air..........I forgot to go back in an re-set my #66 Flap to elevator mix (when I flew it before I had the ailerons mixed with flaps and was using tailerons like the full scale, which actually works quite nicely, but you need a bit more up elevator when you go full flap with the ailerons) So I go flying around trying to recoupe some of my manhood.........................turn final hit full flaps and yeee haa, elevators go to 3/4 full up! So I'm pushing down elevator as the jet is doing a Harrier down and Dave is yelling "Power, Power Bryce!" Got REAL lucky on that one, its amazing though, the jet never felt like it was going to stall it just was building a nice decent rate toward terra firma.

Damage limited to what's in my hand and the nose gear shear pin from going in the grass..............once again...........rushing............lucky.[:o]

Ali -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/9/2006 2:56:53 AM)

Carlos and Bob. ( Those two fine looking men who as ever seem to be prepping my A-4) The only reason why Team Tam jets flew over 75 flights across the weekend and packed each model back into the trailer in the same condition as they came out!
I am sat in a hotel suit at St Louis airport waiting my flight out tomorrow am, reflecting on a great few days. Too many people to thank ( Presta, Jimmy, Duckie, Bob, Carlos, smoking Joe, little big man Tam, My new pit crew Joey, Rob J , Scot and Shui.............. for their support and company. True there were a few set backs over the 4 days but I think in the end it all came together for a memorable event. Which for me was made what it was by the company of the Cali crew. Thanks guys, and I only wish I could return the favour at a UK jet event.

Now, I'm running a bit late.......................for a little wedding in Texas![;)]

I would like to thank Jerry and his 'kids' for the great show. I had a fun time even though I did not fly very much due to the never-ending flame-outs. I think the event went pretty smooth and I was really impressed with the transmitter impound process they had in place. I have been to other events where the TX impound is pretty casual; this seemed to me to be quite bullet proof against accidental TX turn-ons. So for that,[sm=thumbup.gif] The only thing that I would change for next year would be to have a guy stationed at the end of the runway (even with the end of the saftey fence) to signal to the pilots when their aircraft are past the fence so they can turn off the runway and clear it for those who need to come in quickly. Other than that, hats off!

Frank, you did a great job at the dinner and kept us all in stitches. And no Steve, I am not going to 'spar' with Frank again! I actually thought that the Anti-Static question was a good one! [:D]

I would like to thank Kent for coming down and helping me with my JR radio programming issue on my 10S. I still have not figured out the speed brake switch/throttle issue but I am content with just using the lever. [:)] I know that you were busy and I appreciate your time.

Bryce,
If it weren't for you, I would not have been able to fly. Thanks for letting me tap your electricity. I will definately have either a generator or a reliable battery source for the next one! Thanks again man!

It was nice to meet some of the guys from CA. We've been here on RCU chatting and cutting up on each other, sometimes emotions get kind of wound up but most of the time it's all cool. It is always nice to meet the people you only know from keystrokes so you can finally put a face to them. Joe, I am really sorry you lost your Bandit. That sucks man, especially after Bobby just took your picture with it!

And finally I want to thank David Hudson for dragging my sorry butt up there. You have helped me alot and it is so very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hope to see ya'll next time!
Les

Thanks for the pics Bryce, your planes look great and nice choices, to bad for the F-15, but you still have some big pieces left, seams like you had to many things going on o well.....

Tim Redelman -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/9/2006 4:34:43 AM)

Been to a lot of Super-mans,,, Some of my best jet memories have been of Super-man. Not every S-M was as much fun as the other, But I have always had a good time and this year was no different than the other. Jerry had to switch to a site that was not fully in his control and he had to work with people that had probably never been to or knew how to run a jet meet. I am sure of one thing Jerry did his best and now the others involved know what needs to be done and next year will be much better. The only complaints that I heard was the restrictions to the right side of the runway and the positioning of the sun. As far as the restrictions I would agree, but as far as the sun, it was better than the old field by far. So if you need some sunglasses see the Zurich guys and keep em' flying. I fly my Phantom from a 50x800 foot strip so the extra width and runway length were a luxury. Crosswinds are the norm not the exception, anywhere. The fence may have been a little close to the runway for some also, but maybe this could be changed to something lower and more crash friendly. But I would rather hit the fence than a person standing there so the fence really didn't bother me personally. ( see crasher two I believe for my own experience, my red white and blue Bandit. Sorry again Scott!) The last this is the blatant advertising going on unattended in this post! Thanks Jerry and crew will see ya next year! TnTnT!

DocYates -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/9/2006 3:02:00 PM)

Back at work this morning after taking a week off to go to SM, sure is hard to get back in the saddle again. Was great to see some of the guys, and meet some new ones. Was really cold on Thrusday, I must be getting old, cause I saw some guys in shorts, and I was sitting in the trailer most of the day wrapped up in my coat.
I saw Tam's new planes, even picked up one of the F-16's, and guys you will not be dissapointed. Skymaster had some of their new products there as well and I wish I had taken more money with me. Their custom painted F-18 and F-16's are really beautiful and doubt that most of us could even replicate them in our workshops in a reasonable amount of time.
Tam's A-4 is awesome, Dave and Ali flew them all week and they really performed. The F-16 was also amazing. Dave dhowed that you don't need ailerons to handle a crosswind, and he was almost hovering it in the wind. This thing was rock solid and looks great in the air and on the ground.
Skymaster's MB339 is very impressive.
The Cardashs were there with their large selection of Boomerang Jets, as were many other vendors. Jet Central (Artes) was showing their impressvie line of turbines, which now come with a lifetime warranty, which even includes bearings.
JetJoe USA was there and I saw him putting his plane in the air many times this weekend with now problems. These engines seem to have made a huge leap in the past two years and do not even look like the old versions. They even have a built in FOD screen. Budget minded modelers are seeing more and more opportunities to get into the turbine market.
Of course, BVM's new EVF technology is pretty awesome and will open the door to high performance jets without the need for a turbine waiver. It was a week well spent, although I did not get to do much flying.

Superman this year was very different. Cape Girardeau is my hometown where I was born and raised for a short time although the airport didnt quite feel like home. (I think I may be a little burnt out this year) I have attended 9 major jet events throughout the U.S. this year and may have gotten a bit spoiled I think. One of things I really enjoyed was picking up a pack of Aeropoxy nozzles from BVM and getting to see Patty. I did enjoy flying my Phantom in the noon time show with all my friends. 5 Phantoms flying at one time is one of the coolest things you can see and hear. Got Spiderman coming up in a couple weeks and then I am doing much relaxing with my little daughter. -Patrick

Dave Presta -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/9/2006 4:03:40 PM)

Tommy, it was great to finally meet you in person and we appreciate all the kind words…but I have to correct you about the A-4 comment, it was Doug (Duky) Anderson and Ali flying the pants off those things all weekend….I only flew Ali’s A-4 once, and that was because I had the engine running for him ready to taxi out and he was too busy signing autographs to come fly……….so I just flew it myself.
I cant tell you how great it is to finally meet some of the people face to face that we see on this forum, please forgive me if I cant remember all of your names….I’m horrible at that. It was great meeting the Houston gang, Tom Cook, David Hudson, and everyone else that I met for the first time. Thanks again for the Houston wife giving me the left over White Castle burgers to help soak up my hangover.
Carlos Reyes and Bob Logan were absolutely the most important people at this event for TamJets and I just want to thank them for all their hard work. I know I complain about Tam selling my personal aircraft…but bringing these two crew chiefs along makes it all worth while. We flew non-stop all weekend and it was because of them that the planes were ready to start up and taxi out as soon as I landed. I Taxi in with one plane, they are pushing out another and I just hit function 84 on the 10X and switch models, turn the plane on, and go fly………of course having a JetCat helps too. Oh yeah, and they did this for every plane we had, and every pilot who flew including Duky, Ali, Smokin Joe, and Jimmy. Thanks again guy’s, you are the best.
I gotta give a big public great service to Chris Huhn from JR/Horizon who spent half the day in Tams trailer taking apart and fixing Joey Soprano’s 10X radio. I lent him my (John Redmans loaner to me) 10X for parts, and got Joey all taken care of and back in the air. That’s the kind of dedication that you will only find from a few certain people and Chris is one of them. Not only did he spend half the day working on a JR radio, but he was there with his family and his Bandit was out on the flight line ready to fly all day, because he just dropped what he was doing to help someone out. Thanks Chris, it was good seeing you again…..We miss you out here in California.

I will post more later because I am almost positive that I will need to defend myself/retaliate after Tam posts some of the 1,000 pictures he took over the weekend. I just wanted to say thank you to all whom made this great weekend possible.

Dave

DocYates -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/9/2006 4:13:59 PM)

Yeah, sorry for forgetting about Doug. Those A-4 really move out and look great. Hopefully Tam is about to recuperate from the trip, he looked a little peaked on Saturday morning. Nice to finally meet you guys as well, can't say enough good things about Bob and Carlos, they are tops in my book. I will try to do better about remembering names next time, after Ali "accidently" bumped your arm while you were landing and you scuffed the wing tip in the F-16, it all turned foggy for me....[:D]
