This is what its all about. Meeting people like David Murray who you dont get to see on a regular basis, I loved watching his Skymaster MB339 fly with smoke.
David, it was great meeting you...maybe next time we leave Ali at home so I can get a chance on the sticks.[;)]

HI, Bob did not lose the F100, He dad a dead stick landing and put her so gently on the grass, with gear up, just some of the armament came off.

u2fast -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/11/2006 11:40:46 PM)

as for bobs f100, i saw it as well. he landed her with the gear up. it was a smooth landing, the large wing tanks even stayed on. i pitted directly across from bob and the f100 sat out on front of his pits the rest of the weekend for anyone to get a close up of what his 100's look like. i saw no cosmetic damage whatsoever. i spoke with him about the deadstick, he said that the jetcat data showed a couple of failsafes. appeared to be a nonissue. mclure mitch, you said it didnt look good at all. which part? the grass belly landing? an underbelly grass stain or two? it is amazing how some see things so different. my eyes didnt lie to me, the jet appeared to be darn near unscathed. and i went and got a good look at her sitting unattended in the bvm pits. is it we want to see bad things happen to others? barry

SDCrashmaster -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/11/2006 11:41:58 PM)

Barry - Unfortunately you get guys like Mitch. -Patrick

u2fast -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/12/2006 2:01:42 AM)

patrick, i dont even know who mitch is. all i see is a guy who is clueles wanting to stir a pot. he can certainly convince me that my eyes were lying by throwing up a pic or two of this bad situation. heck maybe even the leftovers that were hangar queening in the bvm pit the rest of the weekend. doom and gloom, not for me. i had a great time and it was nice to see everyone at superman. take care, barry

I don't consider myself that good of a pilot to fly with the sun in my face and a crosswind, that's the reason I didn't fly my DV8-R ( didnt even register ). Patrick I think you were very smart not to fly your pretty Diamond Back either because if you were to land it the same way you land that F-4 at 90 mph, I think it would've been unpleasant as well, good call on your part. I tried to introduce myself to you but you were too busy running around and it's kind of hard to chase you on a wheelchair, maybe next time.
I stated that Bob's F-100 didn't look good because it looks like a heavy airplane and a dead-stick cannot be good on heavy metal such as an F-100 but what do I know?. You fellas need to take it easy, nobody's wishing anyone bad things here. I try to read everything here on RCU to learn, I don't come here to stir the pot nor to kiss anyone's @$$. I think that if I have an opinion or some thought of any kind whether is good or bad to some, I can post it just as much as you all do.

jetpilot -> RE: Superman 2006 Event Coverage (10/12/2006 4:15:44 AM)

I also had a failsafe out at Superman .5 seconds. I came back and changed modules and channels and flew again. Later after a slat started hanging up I had to pull a bunch of stuff out and found that the lead to the match box had shorted and melted from some fuel that spilled on it, but it was still working. I couldnt decide if I got hit or the failsafe was from the fried wire. Man, that could have been something really bad.
When are we going to have to quit worrying about failsafes?
But from speaking from experience on deadstick landing on the F100, I had one 2 weeks before Top Gun this year when I had a 5 second failsafe and regained control of the airplane and it floated to the ground just before the doors closed. It took the doors and tanks off, but that was the only damaged remarkably. I thought it was a gonner!!! The tanks really do keep this airplane from any severe damage and the F100 does float down unlike you would think.

Mitch - I am sorry I didnt get to meet you Bro. My wheelchair was broke Friday and Saturday because Tam spilled some green drinking juice on my joystick and then it shorted out my drivetrain motor. He says he will fix it or give me a Viper in replace of the damage. Tam has always taking care of me like that.
As for the Phantom......................The "Noon time" show was the first time I had flown an F-4. I had Dave Presta coaching me since he is the KING of Phantoms in my book [;)] -Patrick
