So the next thing I started doing is calling around to several people to see if this could be done. One guy even told me "I think it's just going to end up being a very expensive experiment, that your only really going to be able to see at night..........guess you could taxi around with it, but that's about it."

Determined to get this to work............I finally made a phone call to one guy who told me to fax him what I had drawn up and he would take a look at it............so I ran downstairs to the hotel business center and sent off that drawing. I then called him and said.........."Can you do that?" "Sure........he replied."

That mans name is Andy Low from ElectroDynamics Now, I have these same afterburner rings on the F-14's but only a few people ever got to see them, because most of the trial flights, I was'nt using them, (keeping the batteries out for less weight....etc.) And there were only a couple of shots that UncleJoe had taken where they were actually on. But as most now know................they really do show up. I also use Andy's light systems on all of my jets, they are not LED's, they are much brighter on lower voltage. I have been working with Andy since that fax, to try and perfect a true simulated afterburner at various throttle settings and intensities, including "soft on/off and flicker effects." While almost there.............Andy is finalizing what should give the desired effect.

So a final big Thank You goes out from me to Mr. Andy Low for once again coming up with the "unavailable."

Thanks again everyone.........had a great time. Nice to make a bunch of new friends and catch up with some old ones. Till next time............try to keep it looking real up there!

Bryce

Andy at Electrodynamics had always been an incredible innovator. He is the man when it comes to all things electro!

So if they are not LEDs Bryce, what are they? They look awesome!

Hi guys,

I have the mailing addresses of several of the guys I wanted to send a DVD to. They are David Ribbe, Bryce Watson, The BVM gang and Steve Pully. I need the addresses of Jerry Caudie and David Hudson if they'd like a DVD.

Any of the other pilots that were at the Superman Rally that would like a DVD should drop me an email at

benlanterman@charter.net

Thanks all,

Ben

Thank you for taking and posting the pictures of my F15. The one in the Ferris scheme.
You captured a LOT of really neat shots of all the aircraft in flight. Great job.

Les

So THAT's what that landing looked like! That sun was pretty bright those afternoons, then again it was my own fault for not wearing my snazzy new Zurich Z2's.......(and whoever has my old pair that I left in the cup holder at work a year ago.........Give em back! )

Grandpa gave me the new issue of Combat Aircraft a couple days ago.............very good issue, especially if you want cool pics of NAVY 18's.....etc.........they even have the full scale Diamonback and my bird as well (which is now starting to look a bit weathered, guess I better get to work with that airbrush again.) Check it out at your local book store............

Les, be sure and send me your mailing address and I'll drop you a DVD. Just plain spectators are out of luck but pilots/owners are welcome to them.

Well, after being out on the road (and in the air) for the past two weeks, I finally arrived home and unloaded the birds.......................switched on the transmitters, plug in the batteries..........pushed up the throttle stick..............and..................heated up the garage a bit.

Mark it's best to let Andy explain how they really work, he really is the expert on this stuff...........I guess I should correct a bit on my former post, as I've done a bit of research and found that they are in fact, from the LED family but they are not what you and I think of, when we think of LED's.........Luxeon emmitters would be the correct classification..........and even then, Andy has gone several steps further in getting them to work properly for our use in models. Each light has it's own circuit board and the rings are balanced. (actually a pretty complex setup, with the controller boxes, etc.) They run off of 4.8volts, but I accidently hooked up one to 4.8 volts direct figuring I would just wire it in with another light.........................20 seconds later, white smoke and poof............gone..........so you really have to talk to Andy about the details.............of what's going on...........way over my head......................here's a little of what the rings look like.....................
