ORIGINAL: rooski Im' lovin my IB4200's SHV's in my SV27....but there's just one little problem. My Twin Peak charger doesn't like them. The 4200 mah x 2 capacity overheats the charger every time I charge the packs. I now have to time the packs at 30 minutes...disconnect them...let the charger cool for a while...then finish charging them later. Anybody else have this happen? I may have to get a new charger. Uggggg. Hi Roosky, The IB4200 are widely used in the European race-scene, but they are on the manufacturers limit as far as being rugged; there have been countless occasions on which some of the cells have died, due to overheating after being charged. It seems to be very important to keep the cell temperature under 45 degrees Celcius, when you take them from the charger and put them into the boat. These cells heat up substantually after being disconnected from the charger, once they exceed 70-75 degrees C, the will gass and loose pressure/punch, or, if the motor load is high enough, die altogether, taking off their coats. When running in the European Championship this summer, using the new IB4200, I sadly had to drop out of the second heat with two cells overheating, slowing me down considerably.... The general idea is to run the cells twice a day max, cool them while charging and only charge them with 2A. I've done this for the remainder of the season and my other IB4200 have survived until now. I only use a higher charging current during the last five or ten minutes of the cycle, taking the fan off, to get the cells at working temperature (40 degrees C). Only running them twice a day meant I had to use my last years GP3300 for at least one heat of the three we run, I must say, the difference isn't that great at all, if I go by the number of laps I can squeeze out, within the limit of the 6 minute race. So gents, go easy on your IB4200, they don't stand up to the abuse the GP3300 takes effordless... Regards, Jan.
