I'm going to config for the "Speederson Config" either today or tomorrow, then run it Sun. We're in the 60s then 70s over the weekend. Man, I miss the snow around Christmas. Maybe prop down to the CF45 when I run the packs I heated up yesterday. And get the fire ext out of the truck.

Just to make you happy Speederson.

Hi Guys,

These are the batteries I got for my brother-inlaws sv27. I hope they work well, since it is winter time is there anything that should be done to these batteries before the spring?

Thank Paul

At least you should keep these batts balanced and not fully charged. You discharge down to 1 v each cell and you charge 800 mAh for storage then regularly checked (due to the nimh self discharge). That's the protocol I follow with my IB 4200.Doing this will ensure your batteries to be in perfect condition this spring...

Aren't those 2/3A cells? I don't believe they would provide enough current to make the SV sing. What ever you decide do not cheap out on batteries.

How to store batteries

Keep batteries in a cool and dry storage area. Refrigeration is recommended but freezers should be avoided. When refrigerated, the battery should be placed in a plastic bag to protect against condensation
Do not fully charge lithium and nickel-based batteries before storage. Keep them partially charged and apply a full charge before use.

and who thought that putz JB was goofy with the Frig thing.

and why do we care about heat.

Avoid overheating, heat is a Nickel Metal Hydride battery's worst enemy.

Hey Blackjack low amp or high amp?

Long-term maintenance charge of NiMH batteries needs to be by low duty cycle pulses of high current rather than continuous low current in order to preserve battery health.

Tell me about it Speedo.
9 times out of 10 I read up on something before I do it with the things that cost the most. I don't mind modding a rudder or turn fin out of the blue. Costs nothing to repair. But a set of $100 packs. Dang right I researched refriging the packs for long term storage.
The batt thread is what I follow for some batt mx and where I got the idea: Red is very knowledgeable.

But you confused me Speedy,

What you talkin' 'bout Willace?
Are you saying to stay away from doing monthly recon on packs by using a c/10 approach to do a re-balance?
So above is recommending doing like a "trickle" charge using 3, 4, or 5A? Just asking. No biggy.

NiCd batts are best when shunted then trickle charged at low Amps prior to eclipse for max charge hold and batt efficiency. But those are NiCd, they have memory issues.

Low current, I would think, allows the packs to displace the heat evenly, over long term. Allowing a uniform charge with little or no heat (above 100F), @ c/10.

Ya thats what Im asking to. You like lower amp like I do. But for a high MaH 4500 shouldnt it be at least 3A. Just have to watch so you dont over heat.

Cost money to go to school and Im still paying for my edumacation The way we use these batts I see short life span.

Hey

I know this is for NiCd but I wonder how it applys to NiMH.

"Ultra-high capacity nickel-cadmium batteries tend to heat up more than the standard version on fast-charge. This is partly due to increased internal cell resistance. To moderate the temperature buildup and achieve short charge times, advanced chargers apply a high current at the beginning and then lower the amount to harmonize with the charge acceptance."
