What kind if charger were you using. I do have a pulse charger, but I was looking at the Pro Digital Discharger at $160.00 Thats $35.00 more than my charger cost.

I use a 977 Stuper Brain (I didn't miss-spell). It has a disharge feature, but I never use it (there goes another charge cycle life span). I didn't buy it for it's discharge capability anyway. I got it because it came with the other goodies at $100. I was eyeballing the Pro for $160ish also, since it has room for expansion to more cells or larger packs.
Yeah, I could have bought a nice $300 pulse chrg/dischrg way back, but who knew. Now with Lion making its mark. Oh well...you can never win. Just grow.

You know. Funny you should ask. I jjust got back from the "other" forum. First, I would think it would improve handling. It never hurts to try (unless you're trying a 51mm prop). With the packs giving some higher CG like the motor placement that Grim mentioned. Howver, people in the "other" thread are dropping their motor flush with hull and all kinds of other autrocities. Like expanding the distance b/w the coupler and stuff tube and, oh my gosh, even making the tube as straight as possible. Scary, very scary stuff. I'm all for the CG remaining a bit dispersed and even high. Might get some runs in tomorrow, but if I do, it'll be with the X642 and X440/3.

Well I still got questions. Guess I need to call Radio Shack. They have answers.
Matched, balanced, Amps ,volts, draw, bla bla my brain hurts. Wonder how long before I melt a pack down.
I know how you feel. I am going back to the way I thought before all this came up. I am not going to worry about it. I will cycle my batteries and slow charge them about every 10 runs. Anymore than that is cost prohibitive anyway.
PS. I also used to keep logs on my packs but I gave that up a while back. It was just time consuming and I didn't see the benifit.

Hey, I will run 2 packs with the 642 and 440/3, then 2 with the Speedo Config. How's that? But I should warn you, the water is looking a bit muddy from all the rain we got today and the numbers might be off..........................quicker. Ha

Man, you do, by far, have the coolest equipment. The inside of you r SV is probably all digital state-of-the-art too.
Thanks ! Now with my new "DSM inside" you're right man
quote:
How long have you been using the DPD?
three weeks
quote:
How long is a discharge cycle for 6c?
Depends on the amount of energy left in your pack. With 600mAmps left it takes 27minutes to balance the cells. With a fully charged pack it takes up to two hours in the dynamic pulse mode due to high amps(30) discharge blocks followed by cooling-down periods to prevent heat cycle during discharge !
quote:
I read the instruction manual and noticed the external cables are for whole packs. The tray is for individual cells. You have the pack in the tray. I would imagine using the tray is better, but does it cause damage to the cells using it this way, since the cells are all connected in series?
Absolutely not,no damage at all ! If your battery pack is incorrectly installed in the cradle,if it has bad solder connection or bad cell,an alarm will sound with red light flash to warn you.The display will prompt you to check the battery pack.
quote:
The larger DPD can dischrg up to 9c (DPD Dyna Pro Digitalâ„¢ Discharger). The smaller Pulse DPD only does 6c packs.
I don't know exactly what does the small pulse discharger, but I wanted the high amps pulse discharge mode as it's the most important function to get race quality packs, like top racers do. Moreover, now I know exactly the individual IR of my cells or of the whole pack.I was able then to make homogeneous packs with practically the same IR cells ! Like cell matchers do....(see the pics) I can tell you that the IR of my GP's is twice my IB's I even discharge my 7 cells packs in the cradle.
quote:
After using this device, I would think it would lower your subsequent charge voltage and result in increased mAh (capacity) (having increased voltage after a charge will mean lower capacity). As a pack gets used more and more, the voltage increases and mAh decreases.
Well, the racers I talked with and using these dischargers are unanimous. After racing they discharge their packs in pulse mode asap. The truth is that doing this your pack will accept more energy AND voltage will be higher !

Cool. You'll really like the DSM. There's nothing like it.
Last ? I figure I ask hear so you don't get inundated. Will you get the individual cell readings if you use the internal craddle for discharging the whole pack? Will you get the same info when using the external hook-up?
So after I'm done each run, and I stop when I start losing punch, simply hook the pack up to the DPD? Let the pack cool down before recharging.

You've got the individual cell display only when using the internal mode (pack in the cradle) Actually I rebuild all my packs side by side,it seems to be better performing than stick packs because the cell balancing is more accurate in the cradle.

That's it. Thanks.
Yeah, that's it ! However you'd better cool down your pack with a fan cooler,it's really worth the expense. You get your packs cooled down in a couple of minutes(You can even make it yourself with computer fans) and you can also prevent your packs from overheating during high amps charging.
