Anyone tried Li-Poly batteries on a hornet? Looking at 2-880mah or 3 880 mah cel pack. Worried that 2 wouldnt have enough voltage (9.5 at full charge) and 3 would be too much (13.5v at full charge. Any input?

Hey,
The 3 Lithium-Poly would give a voltage of 10.4 Volts, not 13 Volts. The 2 Lithium-Poly would give a voltage of 7.2... Everyone is having really good luck with the 3 cells 1020

We are using only Lithium-Polymer cells by Kokam. Cells we use have capacity of 1020 mAh.Specs can be found from Kokam. Use any search engines for local dealer.

For normal setup of Hornet CP 2 cells is just fine. If you have brushless motor, go for 3 cells - 2 isn't enough. If you are having such a high voltages (and they are correct) I really don't know what cells do you have. Never seen Lithium cells with that high voltages - are you sure your loader if fine? When loading Li cells, current and voltage are critical, be sure to use loader which is made for Li cells. They are expensive, but Li can easily result injury if blown.

WeatherB: you are talking about nominal voltages, which are kind of a minimum voltages if the cells are fine. When you load your 3.7 V (Kokam's nominal voltage, some use 3.6 V), the voltage should be limited to 4.2 V when loaded. That makes 8.4 V for full battery of 2 lithium cells. And for pack of three it would be around 12.6 V.

What kind of Hornet? FP? CP? What kind of motor? For a CP Hornet that really goes, a Hacker B20-22s, Phoenix 10 controller, and 3 1020 Kokams in series are perfect.
A CP Hornet with the stock 300 pulls too much current for the the li-polys, unless in some parallel configuration for the 1020's.
FP fliers are getting good performance with a 2 series, 2 parallel pack of the 1020's. Check the Hornet BBS for all the details.
