Hi Sean,

Great site you have...
What's the weight of the Glass fiber you use on the wings?
Which glass weight do they use for the Fuse and how many layers?

Greetings
Tom

Tom,
Thanks for the kind note. For the wings I used .6oz glass cloth applied with z-poxy, squeegeing off as much resin as I could. Then I used 2 coats of minwax polycrylic. As far as the fuse goes, Vic will be able to comment on that better than I can. I stood the plane on a bathroom scale this weekend with the engine, wheels, retracts etc installed and she's around 13lbs at the moment. I used 1/16 sheet on the wings which may be a little light for working with, but it does help to keep weight down.

The glass fuse layup consist of 3oz and 8 oz, with a 2" tape on the side of the fuse from the spinner to the tail section. It did not have any tape on the seam left/right as it overlaped each other, strong and chemically bonded, this I learn from my master Scott Raines. So far I have used only West System 105/206 resins. This fuse was my 4th or 5th fuse, that was when I started to begin understanding the layup process... (sigh!)

Those static blades makes the spit awesome!!! too bad they can't fly the plane. but it sure does make it nice to look at... even when its in the garage , Chad did excellent job building the plug for the blade!!!

Looks like we are going to finish our planes at the same time. I am building the YA Spitfire. This plane, I bought in a crashed state from a friend who bought it at a Swapmeet for $35.00 bucks! I gave my friend 35.00, ordered a wing from century jet, retracts from Lenny Sarbin of Shindin Retracts and here are pictures of what I have got so far....

P.S. I now Chad is the spit man and if he could find me a Marc 14 -C color scheme, something unlike the regular green and grey colors or at least point me in the right direction I would be greatful.

This is a little trick I used to make the Du-bro look more like a Spit wheel using 1 6/4 plywood.

You best watch your rear view mirror too, ScottDog!

Too bad Sung and I could not get our warbirds up last Sunday, he had a couple of screw loose (missing I think) on his mighty mighty engine. and me with a bad ign switch on the fw190.

Good going Scott! Lets go fly it this Wednesday! I'll remember to throttle back :

Scottdog. what engine/muffler combo are you going to use in the YA Spit?.. and Check with Osprey publications for the book "Griffon powered spitfires" They have some pretty good documentation for the MK XIV's. You may find something used in the Asian theater in a different color scheme. Good luck, Regards BobH.

Vic,
You're certainly right, you and Chad did a wonderful job on those blades! Having a static scale prop sure makes a plane look right...afterall you don't see many Ferraris with hub caps!
I epoxied a prop nut on the inside and can just spin on the static prop. Currently the blades are removable but I may fix them in later. I hope to have it primed ready for painting by the end of the month....i'll post a picture when i get to that stage.

Scott,

youre $35 Yellow Spit is looking good!
I need to work up some "hubcaps" as well,
I used the Dubro wheels as well, and arent, well
scale But with that simple addition to them you did
they look very nice!

I will have the Blue on this week, probably Friday as we have
it off at work, a three day weekend to paint!

Todd

p.s. Sean and I got the exhaust manifolds from the UK, they
look sweet!
