I know it's not zero, but I'd have to check with Chris. The engine, BTW, is mounted without any corrective thrust (as per Dave Platt's recommendation). Anyway, I think I now have the CG and balance issues sorted out thanks to the custom "cast" thin lead plates I placed on back of the dummy. That puts the added lead less than an inch behind the propeller. It's hard to get the weight more forward than that! Of course I'll have one final look when everything is competely done.

Status: online 		The update on the Snipe is that there's been no update. But now that things have settled down a bit at work, I'll get back to the final half-dozen or so things before I move on to the "pre-flight" stage of some agressive radio checks, final balance, setting the throws, engine tuning, etc.

I'll fly it when I feel confident I can do so safely.

BTW, the VERY good news is that 2.4 systems are now legal and for sale in Japan! If there are any radio issues whatsoever, I'll get one of these, probably the Sanwa RD8000 (though I'd have specially request a Mode 2 setup).

Status: offline 		Abu, I have the brass, I will work on a "pointy" hub for you this week. I will also turn a not so pointy one and an absolutely blunt one and send them all. As you get to flying and trimming and adjusting things, you may be able to shift things around a bit. As Tiger sometimes wants a nine iron , sometimes he wants a four wood or a five iron. All depends on the distance and the lie, know what I mean. Later, Doc.

Status: online 		I know it's been ages since I posted. Life and (welcome) visitors. But I have finally finished up the dummy/weight platform and that finalizes the "beneath the cowl" components. It's not the work of art I was hoping it would be but it looks good enough from a distance. Perhaps in the future I redo it to a higher standard.

As the sharper-eyed among you may notice the engine doesn't look quite centered in the cowl opening. This is the unfortunate result of a number of small discrepancies that have all added up to produce this effect. The engine itself is just where it's supposed to be. However, my cowl is just slightly smaller than the kit's polycarbonate cowl. Also I've noticed that mine sits at a slight angle. Anyway, I may be able to make some minor corrections to the cowl to somewhat offset this visual defect. I'm not going to obsess about it at this stage though.

It's been typhoon season in Japan so weather hasn't been much good for flying. But whenever there's a day that's only reasonable windy, I take the Cub out. I whacked the wing the last time out and could have rebuilt the wingtips fairly easily, but I decided just to buy a new wing that's what ARF's are for after all. I figure I already saved myself the price of a full replacement on the last (re(buiild).

We'll just have to see when the time for the maiden is right.

Status: offline 		Abu, I'm struggling with this hub but dont give up I'm going to try a different approach and see if it works. The first attempt at the pointy one has a 1/8" straight part at the rear simply to add volume and length for the shaft. Drilled and tapped it weighs a gnats hair under 2 Oz unpolished. The problem with it is it doesn't run true enough to turn at 10,000 RPM. I can see the cross feed and compound head flex on my little machine as I'm cutting and drilling. The piece of brass Nick brought me is 1 3/4" dia. and about 15" long. It took about 4 hrs on the band saw to cut 6" off of it that would fit between the centers of the little lathe and the combination of turning it down to just over an inch and making the tapered hub netted a bag with 1.3 kilos of brass shavings. A conformal building weight, the hard way. Later Doc

Status: online 		Thanks for the bump! The Snipe is still awaiting its maiden and, in fact, there is still a short list of small things that need to be finished. For example, I need to finalized the rigging.

I've also been a bit derelict in my modeling for the past month since my son's been here visiting and we were too busy having father/son fun. I also haven't been in a hurry because I don't feel I'm quite ready to fly it yet. I'd had been putting in as many hours as possible on the Cub and feel "comfortable in the air" (in the words of Bruno Stachel). But truth be told, although ever model I've had since my first trainer has been a taildragger, I've never flown a biplane. So I'm hoping the Legionaire will help out with that (and maybe also the Puppeteer). That and the weather will be a whole lot nicer and more biplane friendly in Sept./Oct.

Starting on Friday, I'll be in the US for a month with my family. So the maiden will have to wait at least until September.

Status: online 		I'd call the them the best 1/6 scale WWI kits on the market. Best in terms of scale fidelity. Best in terms of quality. Best in terms of novel subject choice.

Initially, Chris was calling these "sport scale" kits but they're much more than that. The phrase "sport scale" usually implies stand-off (and often stand WAY-off) scale. In contrast, the CD ScaleDesigns kits retain 100% scale outlines on all flight surfaces, fuselage outline, and undercarriage shape, with only very minor deviations. What Chris really meant by "sport scale" is that these kits should be something the average builder can put together in a relatively short time and have a pretty neat looking scale model. These are not designed to be museum scale kits on a par with the Proctor Albatros DIII kit.

Nevertheless, the kits provide a good degree of detail – but at a practical level. This will be more than enough for the casual builder. Hardcore scale builders will want to go all out – and the great thing about the CD ScaleDesigns kits is that you don’t have to fight them to create a competition level model.
