g'day andy, i got the pilot from war-toys.com got it in the mail to australia from the states somewhere in a week, it cost more to post than buy, i think $25 u.s. thereabouts, search in the bluebox or dragon 1/6 boxed sets.
i've changed the setup of my model from aileron/elevator to elevon/flap, but since doing that have struck bad weather and overtime and not been able to test fly this setup, i beleive tor uses elevons but don't know if he uses flaps. tor, tor can u here us? have you tried flaps? over!

Hi Blackcat - I have tested the flaps very carefully while airborne, I have never taken off or landed with them. I must admit that I am a little
afraid as 3 of the F-16's here had very brittle hinging as they had probably been overstretched and painted during the finishing process.
I must say that you could probably do without the flaps, as she lands perfectly smooth and slow without them, as you can see in my videos.

We had a big scale meeting this weekend, but the wind was so high only a couple of guys risked taking off. I will be going to California
next week for 15 days, so it will be a while until I fly this great bird again. Meanwhile, be sure to check your rudder mechanism if you have
the old one - we have 2 examples of rudder flutter here now, both planes came down safe and in one piece, but the set screw, horn and
hinges should be carefully controlled before you fly again.

Hi Nicolas,
it's good to have you back in the loop again! That landing gear is even better in real life - I have the older version, but will
eventually upgrade to the new one.

One of my Norwegian jet friends landed his SM F-16 1/6 yesterday and hit the brakes in short intervals, and as he accidentally
locked them once, there was smoke coming from the tires!! Pretty cool!

Hope to put some more flights on mine again soon, but first I will be travelling for 2 weeks. After that, it's up in the air! Get the F-16,
you will love it!!

Hi,
You guys know that you can actually use the slow function of the transmitter on a switch channel to sequence the gear and gear doors on one channel all by software in the weatronic receiver? You can actually have gear doors closed / up and when you hit the switch, the slow function will allow X-seconds to open the gear doors, retract the gear and close the gear doors again after that. Switching back will reverse the sequence. Check it out how you can do that at http://www.weatronic-usa.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=55&Itemid=2 . Once you have tried it you will find lots of other neat things to do with it.

Sorry to tell you this is not relevant for the F-16, all doors remain open when gear is down.

However, there are several WOII warbirds which have a combined operation (some doors remain open and others closing again) as well as a few sport jets. This can be for example an advantage to have (only) the nose door closed again to avoid debris in the fuselage (especially when operating from grass fields) and most of all if there is no front air ducting to the turbine or D/F. Of course, the set-up of doors and openings for the struts must allow this doors closing again sequence.

I am impressed of the added possibilities of the Weatronic, though. The less cables and additional devices to do the whole complex job of functions and safety, the better. Only disadvantage is that you need your laptop on the field for fine-tuning all settings during the first test flights, you cannot do it on your TX or with a quick adjustment with a tiny screwdriver or so and take off immediately again. (for example fore eliminating unwanted barrel rolls when having two separate servos on ailerons) But, once it works,.... it is apparantly a brilliant solution for these headaches or risks too !

Best Regards,
Nicolas.

Aileron servo mounting. Any tips on that? I see that I am going to have to cut out the wing and make my own mounts? The instructions do not specify exactly where to put them. I think I have an idea of where they would go but I would like to see what others have done and their experience. Any pictures would help.

I was really surprised to see an ARF not have this pre-made or at lest pre-cut.

Mine did, and so did the other 4 SM F-16 1/6 that we have here in Norway - maybe your wings weren't completed before shipping?

I used my ailerons as flaps (note the tiny connector rod!!), but the cutout and the placement were there on arrival..

Good luck,
Tor

Andy,
My wings were cut with the access hole and the cover screwed to small ply gussets.
I used the Aluminum angle mounts but replaced the plywood standoff's with 3/8" maple. I also glued another piece of 3/8" to the bottom of the standoff, giving a total glueing width where it contacts the top of the wing, of 3/4". I located the aluminum angle on top of the maple, drilled and tapped for a 4-40 FH bolt to mount the servo.
If you need the location of the access holes or pictures, let me know and I'll get it for you tonight.
BRG,
Jon
