I promised to start this, now that I have TWO of these great value motors in my house. 30% Yak and 30% Extra, both in the 17 lbs range, both use 23 x 8 props NX props.

As far as value, these represent probably the best "50 cc class" purchase out here today. And it's NOT a 50cc. Current price is $595, and that includes SHIPPING, *and* a custom-made side exhaust stock muffler that is a GOOD one. Also comes with an auto-advancing ignition that works very well. AND custom standoffs.

It's all up weight NOW is really on a par with MANY 50 cc motors, and you have the advantage of proven reliable carburetion and cylinders. (see http://www.rcaerobats.net/GAS_ENGINE_WTS.htm) Chain saw jugs are made to last a LONG time....Walbro carbs, too.

Those familiar with Scott's work know the care he takes with fit, finish, and machining. The 366GT represents his finest efforts to date, in my opinion, or I would NOT have TWO of them.

The current flying bird, the 30% Yak, is 17+ lbs TOW, add about 24oz or so for smoke/battery, etc. AT that weight, it has unlimited vertical, will easily pull out of a TR (or something that I do that looks as close to one as I can get) and is one smooth running, easy starting and predictable motor.

Put it this way - this same bird with THREE different flavors of 50cc-class motors was not NEARLY as good a performer as it is now. (Pic of the Yak on the ground is at the Brillelli website under "366GT Pics".)

I'm interested....
Can you give me some real-world RPM's on props that compare to say a DA50....

I've been researching it and right now....all I have found is the motor is 10cc bigger than a DA50, weighs about 5-6 ounces more when all up, and does about the same as a DA50 even pulling the same prop.

What other flavors of 50cc did you have on your plane?

No rpm figures for other motors, and I don't tach mine. I have used a BME 50, Taurus T-52; they worked well, but what I'm using now is better. I have no way to compare it to a DA 50, sorry.

Bob...I notice that you specify an AUW on this motor as 72.2....where as Brillelli says the AUW is 68oz. Only 4 oz...but wondering what is comprising this 4 oz....????

His is his stock side muffler, mine is wrap around. That's it as far as I know....

Those make the motor look alot better than the ones on the Brillelli website which kinda look like "prototypes".

Where do you get your muffler -- it looks better??

Scott made that one for me. He also has done custom wrap around, will do pics and post tomorrow, it's on the new motor. Same 10 oz, but nice compact wrap around.
I have s/n 2 and s/n 4. Not prototypes at all.

The best thing about a sideport engine is everything is up front where you can get at it.
I have had it with rear carb engines. I have three that sit in a drawer because of it.

I agree, wholeheartedly, and I sold my rear intakes. Never looked back, or said "I wish I hadn't".... I have all up weights now....

but how much....??

I'm kinda surprised that folks are not flying a 24x8 on it with 10cc (20% larger displacement). It doesn't look to be more powerful that the MVVS58 (but that bad boy is HEAVY). I was reading a static thrust number of around 30 but I read earlier test results that showed the DA-50 getting between 28-32 lbs for static thrust measured/not calculated...so that would be equivalent to a DA50. My goal would be like 33-35lbs static thrust on a 16.5lbs model....looking for a little better than 2:1.

So this motor is basically a G62 reworked? Or I read a SACS (not sure what that is)? A conversion of a chainsaw engine with electronic ignition added? Excuse my ignorance.... Trying to come up to speed.

Also, I was reading about the the BMCA 62 engine....it kinda looks like that is the same concept if I'm reading correctly...but those are less expensive.... Slightly higher prop numbers but also another 2 or so ounces added weight as well....so pretty equivalent.

The 366GT is a 60cc chainsaw (Husqvarna) cylinder/piston/head, with a custom bottom end, and purpose designed front hub. It is NOT a derivative of any kind of Zenoah, that I am certain of.

As for published "thrust" or rpm....I don't go there, won't go there, as reported numbers are never comparitive of side-by-side runs, same prop, same gas, same day/temp/humidity. Also - whether a motor is brand new, slightly broken in, or in "normal" mode makes HUGE differences in the power available.

I haven't tried a 24" prop because I really like what I'm getting with the NX 23 x 8. Will soon try Vess 23A on the Yak to see what we get, performance wise.

Unfortunately (this is my opinion, only, perhaps) the only REAL comparison that has any meaning is throttling up and pullling vertical. That's where I find out several things;
a.... is the motor "tuned" properly
b.... is the right prop on it?
c.... does it have the power that I need for what I want to do?

Yes, sounds inefficient, but it is the only way that I really "know" what a motor will do. And it works for me.

Forgot - it is NOT a BCMA engine, nor is it a Sachs jug. It is a "conversion", if you mean that the "motor" (head, crankcase, piston, rod) came from a chainsaw, but these are virgin motors that have NOT been installed in a home or industrial appliance. To me, *THOSE* are true "conversions". Brillelli's are scratch built for being airplane powerplants.

I just like the way your 60 flip starts Bob. Feels so limber and smooth instead of being tight and hard to hand prop. I could get spoiled hand propping that jewel. I get a bad pain in my shoulder if I flip an engine too many times. They should all be that easy to start.

3D: DA 50s are not getting 28-32 pounds thrust 24-26 tops. At $595 RTF with muffler you cant go wrong at all.

The old 2:1 ratio for 3D is more of an old "I need" concept since everyone was using horse power calulators and 2:1 was easy to achieve. However in real world numbers the thurst was actually lower than 2:1 and the performance is great.

I have a 15 pound extra (with an empty 24oz tank) with an engine that does 25 pounds thrust (real numbers) and it hovers with ease at 1/4 throttle. So why add the weight to get more thurst? All that does is take your wingloading up. I can also tell you my extra was 16.5 pounds dry with the same engine (before I put my plane on a diet) and it still hovered at less than 1/2 throttle.

Sinergy...I fly profiles and I get at least 2:1 thrust ratios or better in most cases and I can hover for real with 1/4 throttle. My worst profile is about 40% throttle to hover and its the ragged end of acceptability for me. I must have as close to a real 2:1 as I can get for the type of flying I do or I wont be happy...plain and simple.

But, I agree with you that this Brillelli 60 might be the closest I can get from the research I've done...and I appreciate you being the original poster to point it out to me. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

50% throttle to hover, means if I jam on the throttle and rudder to do a spinning top and I want it to flip around on the horizontal in place....that what I end up with is a gigantic sideways loop instead of 3d. If I hover at 25% throttle, that same spinning top manuever is a flip in mid air.

Some pics, as promised. Custom muffler, two side views. Scott takes extra care to polish crankcase, bead blast head and muffler. He does all the welding. I think I like his work....and I *sure* like the value his prices bring....

Scott does the mufflers. The wraparound added $40. His $595 includes a stock "side exhaust". Drop him an email, let him know what you're interested in; he'll give you a straight price.
