Well here's my final mount or close to it. I used 4-40 screws with brass inserts in the blocks behind the firewall. The 1/4-20 motor mount bolts go throught the braceing as well so I think this motor will stay put. Thanks for your input guys.

Gordy,
Is that a single 80 or the 80 twin?

Thanks, Gordon

It is a single. The head is pointing straight down with a Pitt's muffler.

Cordy:

Looks real nice. I don't think the aluminum angle brackets are necessary. If it comes out nose heavy they could be removed if not I would keep them. Ever think about making some to sell ????????. Keep up the good work .

rudder pull-pull with crossed wires - 4/11/2003 11:38:26 PM

I have just spent several evenings and a lot of time on the computer to get the best pull-pull rudder set up for the edge. The reason is because I wanted to cross my wires. When you cross your wires with even length arms, they go slack when away from center. Here is what I did:

Rudder arm centered on rudder with black plastic tabs coming forward inline with the rudder hinge line.
This gives a 4.5" space between each pivot point at the rudder.
I reduced the length of the rudder tiller arm (attached to servo using 4-40 hardware) to 4.25" total length.
I crossed the wires (the wires exit low on the servo cutouts for tail rudder servos)
Hitec 700BB servo mounted in the radio tray in the aft end, with the output shaft forward (closer to the nose).
I kept the servo horn to the tiller arm connections parallel at whatever the length was (about 2.75" I think).
HERE IS THE KEY!
I combined two key "tightening" methods into one. I had a shorter output tiller arm than at the rudder (4" spacing vs 4.5" spacing), and I put in negative ackerman by offsetting my pivot holes for my wires forward of the hinge line.
I drilled my holes 3/8" forward of the pivot point (forward meaning towards the tail, or infront of the servo) at 4" apart. This keeps the wires tight throughout the entire swing of the rudder. I arrived at this using a lot of trial and error. What eventually did it was a full scale mock up on a sheet of ply. I fixed the rudder spacing (4.5" and the servo spacing (4" then varied the amount of forward offset (negative ackerman). This method can be used for any plane size, but the numbers will most likely be different. Oh, one last thing, rudder to tiller arm was about 36". Keeping this distance long helps the angles.

Does anybody know the diameter and length of the axle for this plane. I took mine out of the box and was gonna take to the hobby store to match it. I can't remember where I placed it. Help please.

Smokey: They are 5/16 diam. And approx 2 3/4" length. (May need to be cut off a tad).

Hope this helps, Bill

Hmm.. 5/16" diameter sounds big. Is this correct?

Smokey: Yeh, 5/32 is correct. Some day I will learn how to read the no.s on a caliper. Hope I didn't inconvenience you.

Stockers will last if you fly off grass. If it is on pavement, you will get a couple flights before they are down to the hub..... I got four flights before I noticed the wheel pants getting closer to the ground.

Smokey: I fly off of grass, and I have had no problem w/the stock wheels. However there have been a LOT of posts referencing poor experiences w/the stock wheels/axles. They look fine to me, and seem to be holding up well.
