I have just come back from a dam where four of us flew our sea planes. I own a seawind and made this model take of from land and water.
All I did was make working gear doors and water proof boots for the stairing cables.
it was a lot of fun flying this plane of the water and when I got close to shore put the retracts down and taxied onto land ready to refuel.
this plane flys really well. Trevor

gear doors are there to help the flow of water over the hull
they do flood but as long as the water is flowing over the hull and not hitting the bulkhead there is no reason for the nose of the plane to dip down use rubber boots that are made for RC boats
put S/S cable through boot and then grease with marine grease
at this stage the cable and the boot is not fixed to the plane at all
fill the boot up with white roofing silicone and let dry over night
drill to holes just big anoth to fit cable through, add push pull system to end of cables and attach servo
slid rubber boots up to bulkhead and silocone in place let dry overnight
i used robart 530 tri gear that is set up for this plane install nose wheel
shape and make hatch that runs from top of opening to landing gear when it is fully down
glass this hatch and paint in white epoxy, when dry fix into place with white silicone
shape and make gear doors first in one peace and then split them down the middle allow a slight gap in middle
use great planes hinges and cut slot 4 off in edge of hull running long ways
before glassing doors place hinges on gear doors and mark location
cut into gear doors from face and tack hinges with CA
then glass over doors and hinges to give them strength, once doors are glassed paint in white epoxy
slide hinges into slots, turn plane over and epoxy hinges to plane from inside
i will get photos of doors if wish also i have a CD with the seawind landing on water and gear doors etc going down and plane taxing up onto land if i can download film i will
regards Trevor.

its a steady plane to fly but a little tricky to take of and land
still didn't need flaps just a bit of technique
this plane is running a saito 91 with a 12 x 8 master airscrew prop

Thanks Trevor,
I appreciate your taking the trouble. I also know someone from the Knife Edge forum who's interested. Enjoy the expo.

Yours,
Doug

BTW, if you have the simulator RealFlight G3; I just finished modeling the Seawind for it. You can get it here:

can anyone give me advise as to stop the carb from flooding before starting?. i have an inverted os 70 fs and before i can start it, the gravity from from fuel cell being so high above the engine just pours the fuel in the carb......thx in advance

Two thoughts:

The tank fittings should be at or maybe 3/8" max higher than the spraybar/fuel outlet on the engine.

When fueling use a hemostat (with heat shring tubing or buts of fuel tubing over the jaws) to clamp the out-line to the carb and remove the clamp just before starting.

Well, maybe three thoughts - you are removing the carb line when fueling?
