Ok RC Tankers, here we go. This post relates to the discussions here ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4835578 ) about giving Tankers their own forums. I thought I would start a new thread to give you all the news. I spent a good portion of the day yesterday discussing with Marc (RCAdmin) about getting Tankers thier own forum here on RCU. Before you all start popping corks on champagne bottles I need to tell you that I have good news, and I have bad news.

Let's get the difficult part over with first. Setting up a completely separate forum category for Tanks would involve MAJOR programming on the part of Marc, Nathan, and Michael so that's probably not going to be able to be done anytime in the near future.

Now remember, I said I had good news too. So read on before anybody gets upset........

The Good News. Marc did listen to my arguments for the Tankers and we worked out these compromises in this area. Here is what Marc is willing to do for the tankers in this area:

  • First off, changing the major forum name from "RC Cars, Buggies and Trucks" to "RC Cars, Buggies, Trucks, and Tanks"
  • The category sub-forums that you all decide on will be put into place in the current RC Tanks forum under Cars, Buggies, etc.... So here you will get the sub-sections that you all want. All you need to do is give me the "rooms" that you want and I'll get them to Marc. If the RC Tanks community on RCU grows down the road as a result of this new structure then we'll readdress the issue of giving Tanks it's on separate category.
  • Right now there isn't enough sales traffic in the marketplace to justify separating out the Tanks from where it's at now. But..... Marc is willing to put a DIRECT link from the RC Tanks discussion forum to the RC Tanks marketplace section to help increase exposure, traffic, and sales. If the number of ads increases for RC tanks on down the line then they could probably justify separating it out.
  • All current threads in the RC Tanks forum will stay where they are at. But then all new messages will be under the rooms structure that you all set up.

So........ assuming that you all approve of this new proposal from RCU administration what I need is the structure of the rooms so that they can get to work putting them in place.

I don't know how you all want the exact structure of the specific forums, but there are a few forums that I would like to make a suggestion that you include in the final decision:

  • Clubhouse - This will be general "catch all" room to discuss anything about tanks that's not covered in the other rooms of the forum. This is where everybody should come together to "chew the fat".
  • The War Room - This room should be for discussing all things involved with the battles that are done.
  • Support Forums - We may want to think about seeing if the manufacturers of the tanks would be willing to run an "official" support forum. This would be a place for end users to ask questions and such and for the manufacturers to answer your questions. This forum will only work if the manufacturers are willing to "play along".

Ok, I think that's about it. So, does everybody want to do this???

    Ken

Sounds great.....................but I doubt the manufacturers will want us to have any kind of direct contact with them because all they will hear from us is this is not really accurate for this tank and what/when is the new tank coming out?!!

The direct link to the tank marketplace will be great.

I agree with you !

My very personal opinion is that I prefer a construction/engeneering area where manufactors are welcome to post - but the builders of tank modells discuss the modells (good and bad) and give help to eachother ...

Generell idea sounds good to me !

Thanks !

As I said in my initial post, the general structure of the "rooms" will still be up to the group here. I was just making a small recommendation for a few rooms that should be included in your final list.

I know that Tankduel had gone though the last forum and came up with this list.

*CLUB HOUSE
A forum for general discussions about the hobby of RC Tanks; ie, events, battlefields, accessories, painting ,etc

RC TANK FORUMS

*1/16th scale Tamiya RC Tanks
*1/16th scale Heng Long RC Tanks
* Other RC Tanks;(can be broken down further as required)

I think it is a good starting point.

Great!
Whilst the manufacturers support forum is a great idea, in principle, I don't think it will work in practice; unless of course some of the members here can convince some manufacturers to be involved.

Ken, I have added your 'War Room' idea to the list which most members that contributed their input saw as a good starting point for the RC Tank forums and the basis for future expansion.

*CLUB HOUSE
A forum for general discussions about the hobby of RC Tanks; ie, , battlefields, accessories, painting ,etc

*WAR ROOM
A forum for discussion of RC Tank Battling.

RC TANK FORUMS

*1/16th scale Tamiya RC Tanks
*1/16th scale Heng Long RC Tanks
* Other RC Tanks;(can be broken down further as required)

I have to agree with Stern...

If we have to divide the categories, we divide by scale ~first~ thn have sub's for brands within it. Anything else is rather insulting, in my honest opinion.

Another vote:
1) Clubhouse (general discussion)

2) 14th-18th Scale (widen the scale slightly, allows Tamiya armored semi's & Dragon XD conversions)
- sub-cat - Tamiya
- sub-cat - HenLong
- sub-cat - Other Brands (possibly one for each maker?)
- sub-cat -engineering/construction

3) 6th scale (anything above 1/12)
4) 35th-20th scale (anything 1/20 and below)
5) Battlefields/Dioramas
6) Engineering - technical - scratch building
7) Modeling techniques
8) War Room - Pics and videos
9) History
10) Support Forums

Anyone agree?

I like this breakdown also, of course, as time goes by I'm sure things will change but this would be a great starting point. I'm in!
