Senior Pattern Association.

Its kinda a old timer thing, but it really is designed to reflect how pattern used to be flown 30+ years ago. I'm 35 and I've only flown for 5 years, but I too fly the SPA patterns as well as NSRCA and IMAC. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't feel old to me, it's just different.

Check the web site in the other post. The rules have recently been updated to reflect changes adopted by the membership in December.

The intent of SPA is to provide pattern competition in the style of the last 60s and early 70s while limiting the cost of equipment. As you'll see, no pipes, no retracts, no airboxes. Planes must basically conform to the original design, with allowances for the kind of changes pilots make to suit their own preferences. Four strokes were introduced a few years ago as a means of dealing with noise restrictions. The guys with the urge to fly pattern at 140 forget how noisy those things are.

The association is beginning its 12th season. Competition is mainly in the southeast, but is beginning to spread to other areas of the country.
