i would suggest get a few glow plugs (since most glow plugs crap out after breakin in MOST NOT ALL) maybe a set of A-ARMS since there so cheap to buy its always go to have a set laying around and i would suggest to change the bog bones to CVD's right out fo the box that way if u crash and for example and u break the a-arms or the turnbuckle pops off u dont risk looseing the dog bone right now thats probably the most i can think off

dog bone is like the drive shaft connecting the drive train front or rear to the wheel...

upgrade the rear shock tower, buy a pull start and glow starter and get rid of that heavy, unreliable easy start. that'll keep you going for a while. after that, steering servo definately needs to be upgraded, if not the entire radio system if you want to. i personaly hate traxxas engines, but you might not. a-arms are good to have for replacement parts, as well as screws and such.

Yeah right, Get rid of the SIMPLE EZ start system and get a pull start. That way when you dont have it tuned correctly you yank that sucker till your arm falls off and loose all interest in the hobby. Get real. The EZ start is just that, EZ and reliable. For someone who hates TRAXXAS engines, you sure like to tell him whats not reliable and what is when it comes to thier engines and RC's. I own 7 Traxxas products and Id never switch out the EZ start for a pull start. I wish I could put the EZ start on all my other non-Traxxas RC's. There is nothing better then plugging in a simple wand, hitting a button and having it fire up instantly. Unless ofcourse there is the other option. Fumble with the glow ignitor, pull the body, or hack the hell out of it so you can get the pull start out and have the chord cut the **** out of it, pull like hell(coz he is probably a newbe to nitro and hasnt masterd the art of tuning yet) to get it started, while holding your finge3r over the stinger to prime the motor, put the body back on and just get ready to run it, just to have it stall from loading up from idling. Start all over again.

KEEP THE EZ START!!!!!!! or sell it to me Ill gladly use it. The Radio is fine for beginners and bashers. Ive never had any problems with them or the steering servos in the 20+ years Ive been involved in RCing and 10ish of that was TRAXXAS. Sure the servos wear out eventually but there is no need to buy anything bigger then the same thing, anything bigger or faster is just overkill. All you will need is glow plugs, tires and a hole cut in the windshield and cut the area around the engine out for better airflow. Look into a rechargable hump pack and charger for the reciever.

I went offroading once and the steering servo just killed itself. I had to replace that, and a blue balloon for the receiver to match the car. :-P

i prefer the pull start big time. with the "ez" start, you have to keep an extra battery charged which gets drained pretty quick, it adds a ton of weight, and won't even come close to starting the engine if it is not perfectly tuned. it also majorly restricts airflow to the engine so makes it run much hotter. the vast majority of people on this site will tell you to ditch that thing. its a freakin puny engine, it takes nothing to start it with the pull starter. that's great that it works well for you blackfoot, but MOST will strongly disagree with you.

My hottest running TRX motor is my 3.3 JATO and runs a scorching 200-220, the other three 2.5s I have run under 200 and the .15 I have runs 200-210. I use 1 wand and start them all with it for atleast a week on the same batt. Its only a puny 2400 to boot. I have 20+ batts constantly charger for mine and my 2 sons electrics. As for weight, whats is weigh a whopping 10-12oz???, big deal, and unless your racing, which Traxxas isnt really intrended for, the weight doesnt mean crap. I have never had a problem with starting any engine with the EZ start so I guess I must be good at tuning then.

As for most everyone disagreeing with me, whats freaking new? I havent jumped on the old the HPI, AE or O.S. bandwagon and to MOST everyone here, if it aint the BIG 3, it aint worth owning. Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one, and most stink like crap!

Your sharing your opinion too, and a lot of people think it stinks like crap as well. I have never driven or owned a nitro traxxas, but the elecs are okay. If you don't agree w/ someone, then don't write up a two paragraph essays waying how their wrong and call them an idiot, just say you've had good luck and repeat it everytime you post. Also, the comments at the end of your last few posts haven't been too appropriate for the forums.

As for the rustler, get a pullstart in case for later, and glow plugs are a good idea. I believe a better servo is in order too. I recommend the Hitec HS-645MG.

nice blackfoot. it sounds like you've had really good luck with traxxas. i didn't. im just trying to spread my experience. im not trying to bash any company. the main reason i care about the weight of the ez start in the rustler is because in my opinion, it is too tail heavy, one of the reasons i doesn't turn too well.

oh, and on a semi-random note, STPWNNR, your avatar is pom-pom from homestarrunner.com . thats a good site...

i didnt think i would have to step in here, but mister blackfoot needs to settle down. its just someones opinion about the rustler, you dont have to take it personally. i tried to help unclezesta with his rustler, and i must say i have the same opinion about traxxas that he does. it doesnt make it wrong or right, its what i think.

My son has owned 3 Nitro Rustys, and still owns one that is 6 or 7 years old. The following parts are what I would replace:

-Rear shock tower. Even fiberglass is several times stronger than the stock one.

-Alum rear A-arm mounts.

-Alum front caster blocks.

-Rear tires. Proline Gladiator II M2 compound is an all around good tire.

Besides standard operation stuff (those two extra glo plugs) and general maintainance, I think you will be fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it does break, build it stronger only if the price of the upgrade makes sense over the price of stock. BTW, if you end up replacing A-arms, buy RPM. When you finally shred the body, buy any of the 0.040" thick Lexan replacements.......much stronger.

P.S. depending on where you run, a failsafe could save your rusty one day.
