I would like to make some wing tip molds, so I can lay up tips for a Quickee 500 plane rather than sanding down large balsa blocks.

I have a basic understanding of making molds, but would appreciate any guidance or tricks that you experts have found to work well.

Thanks in advance.

HI I am goony from the UK I know we all speak ENGLISH but we sometimes have different words or meanings for things so if u have any probs let me know?
1st make your ideal set of wing tips these must be perfect as all the others will be exactly the same so if they are wrong then they will always be wrong?once u have made them give them 2 coats of resin allowing them to cure inbetween then wetndry them with 1200 untill they are perfect and even all over then polish them and keep doing this until u get a mirror finish
wash well with soapy water then dry off, u should mount these on a board non porous type with glue if there are any gaps between the plugs as we shall now call them and the board then this must be filled easiest method is to use plastecine and make this flush with the plugs, then give them 10 coats of wax allowing it to dry for 15 mins each time then buff off each coat of wax and cover the board at the same time? Now gel the plugs with 2 coats of gel use a dark colour if u can black is best as it shows up any scratches better on the mould? When these have cured put a layer of tissue over them this will stop any voids then when this has cured lay them up with 12oz of glass using 1oz for the first 4 layers then let this cure then chuck on the rest with 2oz glass.
when this has cured at least 12 hours? u can remove the moulds these then inspect the moulds and remove any scratches that u missed before hand with 1200 wetndry then polish to a mirror finish wash with soapy water and wax again with 10 coats as before u then have your moulds and are ready to go?
hope this helps?

regards goony
