Today I got my ASP 180 fs and it looks like the 91 on steroids. I weighed it, and all up weight was 1045 grams and 950 grams without silencer, that makes it about only 70 grams heavier than the Saito 180 sans muffler (I thought there would be a more significant differense) I will break it in during this weekend using some straight fuel with 20% oil, plenty of that castor. I`m thinking to use either a wooden 17-6 or 18-6. I will get back here with the results shortly. The engine sure is a beauty, looking just as good as most everything else, so it looks very promising I hope to swing the 18-6(it`s a Volk from Peakmodel) at about 8200+ eventually, if not on straight, then on 15% or I can play with the compression a bit to see if that does anything good

A month ago I bought an ASP 1.80 FS from Peak Model ... all up weight (everything on the engine inc. plug, prop nuts etc) 1054 grams.

Most impressed ... lower than quoted weight from specs.

I have an 18x6 APC wide blade "paddle" prop I will use on it ... not run the engine yet but it looks good!

$250 US, plus $10 shipping, arrived in 8 days, can't complain at all

From time to time the top class engines like Saito have their bad moods. Good luck with your Magnum!!!.

All brands have their lemons. My first YS 110 was replaced under warranty because it just refused to run properly and it was leaking fuel I have several Magnum`s and I am very satisfied with all of them, so I am very exited about this new big one, if it is as good as my 91 I will be a happy camper

Hello I am so happy right now I have just had a chance to run my 180 and after only 3 tanks(12oz) of rich running in it produced 8100 rpm peak on a Menz s 18-6 wooden prop(wide blades) running on 0% fuel. Then I switched to 15% and tached it again, this time it peaked at 8350 rpm on the same prop( I peaked it only briefly to tach it before richening it up again). I find these numbers very impressive and they are higher than I was hoping for. For comparising, my MVVS 26cc gasser on tunedpipe(3.8 hp) turnes that very same prop at 8600 peak so the ASP is breathing it in the neck, plus the ASP will certainly produce more power after a couple of gallons. Just to top that off it idles steady at 1800-1900 on both 0% and 15%, runs smooth and is overall GREAT! The best is that it will get even better as it fully breaks in, he he

According to my thrust calculator, Thats 2.6 hp and 21 pounds of thrust which is right in line with what should be getting. I'm a little puzzled though, the directions say to break that motor in on a 16/8 prop. An 18/6 is a lot of load for break in.

I intended to use a Volk 17-6 for break in but the hub was to narrow to be secured by the prop nut because the threaded portion of the shaft was to short, if you know what I mean. Anyway I watched the temperature and it never became hotter than I could grab it after it had stopped. Isn`t that thrust calc a little optimistic? If it really pulls 21 pounds my harrier 90 will be a bullet in verticals

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but 18x6W @ 8350 rpm is not close to 21 lb. of thrust. I measured APC 18x6W @ 9400 rpm to be 19 lb. of thrust. At 8350 rpm, 18x6W pulls 15 lb. Realistically, you can probably get 8500 rpm on 18x6W if you go 30% nitro. But you are still looking at 16 lb. Mens-S and APC wide prop have about the same load and efficiency.

As for the prop hub being too short to be secured by the threaded shaft, are you using a spinner? A spinner backplate can bias the prop foward by about 5mm to 8mm. Furthermore, you can use a thicker thrust washer. If you need it only for breakin, get a cheap 16x8 prop like master Airscrew. it is plenty thick at the hub. The instruction says to break in with 16x8.

Actually about 16 pounds of thrust is about what I expect to get on a fish scale, but that will be just enough on a 8 pound plane, don`t you think No I had no spinner big enough at hand and no thicker washer either, so I just had to slap on that Menz because the engine screamed to me: start me up! start me up!

Seanychen, does your Saito 180 turn the apc 18-6w at 9400?

It was a 180, but a Moki.

Saito 180 can swing 18x6W at about 9000 from what people post.
