I have found that the key to keeping the engine running good in flight is the exhaust ports pointing backwards. Other than that, the stock tank mounted forward has been good.

the header tank is a cool idea though. I would use larger tubing first to see if that helps. We have also been running the motor a little rich because it does unload pretty good.

Im running a Super Tigre .90 with a graupner 11x8 pusher and the jett muffler is being put on it now, but the motor has to be mounted upright for that. prior was a jtec.

I turned the main tank around so the clunk faces the front and added a 1 oz. header tank with the clunk facing the rear.

The length of the fuel supply line was shortened over 6". Vent tube was lowered so the main tank would hold only 8 oz. On an up line or acceleration fuel will need to draw 7 1/4" as opposed to the original 13 1/2". With a full tank and 60 degrees up line the main clunk is uncovered. When the main clunk is under fuel on a gradual up line gravity assists fuel flow.

Shorter fuel lines and less distance to pull fuel has to make the engine easier to adjust. And hopefully more reliable.

Bill

Was wondering if you had a chance to test fly the plane with the new fuel setup?

Haven't flown yet but the ground tests indicate fuel delivery is much improved. Both needles are easier to adjust. Pointing the nose up has very little effect on the engine.

I blotched the first installation and found a pinched fuel line and trash in the carb while at the field. Hate it when a second problem compounds the solution.

Additional ground tests were at a location too small to fly an untested airplane. After a long taxi out or deceleration after a take off run will often shut the engine down. There are probably low speed issues that are independent of the tank set up.

Has anyone thought of putting a YS 1.10 on their keecat? Anyone seen one fly with a larger 4-stroke? I know some people are flying the new sundowner 50's with the 110's and are getting wild speeds. I know the sundowner is alot smaller, but the light weight of the YS combined with it being pumped seems to be a good choice. I was thinking of running a crazy prop like an APC 11x12 or 12x12 on it with a 110 and seeing what I came up with. Might be interesting. Anyone have an opinion on this?

Hmmm...it seems that I forgot about that one small issue . Doubtful I could get APC to make one in that size either.

You know, it seems that one could make a type of reversing gearbox adapter for model airplane engines. Most glow engines that would need one have the same shaft diameter. Might be a cool thing to look into.

I found that Zinger has more choices pusher props on their website than the hobby stores sell even if the store sells Zinger props.
http://www.zingerpropeller.com/Pusher.htm
That 11x10 should work nicely with my O.S 70 heli engine or my ASP 91 2 stroke to be installed into my soon to be delivered Keecat. I know people prefer APC props over Zinger but APC doesn't seem interested in supported more pusher props for the masses. Just make sure to check the Zingers for balance before installation.

On a different note I believe the manufacturer of the Keecat is going out of business, after reading this forum on how much fun people had flying theirs, I quickly found a shop that still had some and ordered mine.

I will order and try the 11x10 zinger.

I am running a super tigre .90 with a Jett pusher muffler. that would be a good combo!!. currently running a graupner 11x8, and its a bit too high rpm but it runs good. its about 110mph like that

The aircraft is very draggy though. and I dont like the wing design on the nitromodels birds because you cannot take the wingtips off.

SO....anyone got any other good pusher jet prop planes out there? its fun to mess with?

I have the little .25 nitro cat on 1000 watts of electric, and its as fast as this bird, and flies about the same.

I like the fuselage design on this bird, but I dont like the booms/tail on this plane, nor do I like the Nose gear design.

I thought about designing one but the design is so close to BVM's cats that it would be impossible to not infringe.

we are working on amodified flying wing/delta pusher 48 inch that may be a winner down the road. ITs a UAV design at present, but it does about 80mph on a .25 eflite electric two 2100 three cells in monokote. we are looking to see if it can be done in fibreglass. the 24 inch prototype is doing 100 on a 3 cell 1500 and a little hacker in runner.

Going from a 11x8 to 11x10 should bring the rpm's down 1500+ rpms but will maintain or even boast the speed of your Keecat. I think the noise level of your plane would come down a good amount also. Since I tweek my planes in my back yard I always try to go up in pitch(down in rpm) on my planes props to try and keep the prop noise from overwhelming my neighbors.

You might consider looking for an older Super Tiger .90 which will run backwards to avoid the hassle of finding pusher props. Pusher prop availability for .90 size engines is slim.

Honestly its not worth it, the plane is so draggy, it will be difficult to pick up more speed on a prop anyway, unless we make dramatic changes. You are limited to 11 inch prop anyway , so an 11x10 is about the max prop we could use, and still get it airborne. I spoke with Dub Jett about getting the most speed, and he said I could probably tweak 1000 rpm more or maybe about 15 mph, so I will just enjoy it.

I am putting a Jett muffler on it, which will require me to turn the engine upright and replumb and redo the throttle as well. That will take it to about 15000 rpm with the graupner 11x8. the Jet.90lx is good for about 15700 in that config, so we are approaching the upper end of the wall without going to a turbine. So Im going to tweak the current setup. I just bought an Elan with a Wren Super sport, so my speed junkie plane is switching anyway. I also have a screamin deamon almost done.

The keecat is a good plane to learn swept wing flying characteristics, and it presents well for the most part.

enjoy!!

Ya know Goose, I really would have to agree with you. The fact that the keecat's days are numbered and the new falcon 120 with a less draggy airframe, I suppose investing in a super engine for the keecat might be a bit much. The plane does present well and actually flys pretty good. I finally got my fuel issues worked out and am starting to enjoy flying it. I have some nice video footage of me flying off a road a few days ago that I will post on you tube soon. Sould be fun.
