Not much going happening on the keecat scene here lately. Was wondering how that ST90 install turned out? Also...I backordered a few of the new Zinger 11x10 props and was once again thinking of a nice YS 1.10 or YS.91 on there. Should give some nice speed I would think. Anyone got an opinion on this?

I'M PUTTING AN O.S. 91 FX IN MY KEETKAT. I BOUGHT A 14/7, BUT REDUCED SIZE TO 12 3/4 SO HAVE SOME GROUND CLEARANCE. ADVISE HOW YOUR 14/7 WORKS. ALSO C.G. IS STATED AT 197MM FROM TRAILING EDGE. ANOTHER WRITTER SAID 9 1/4 INCHES FROM TRAILING EDGE. QUITE A BIT OF DIFFERENCE. ADVISE WHAT YOU USED AND HOW IT FLEW. THANKS

we use 10.25 inches from the trailing edge for CG.

We are using the graupner 11x8 pusher. the prop clearance is really about 12 inches max due to landing in the flare.. A 12x7 prop should produce good static thrust, and about 90 mph or so, maybe more on a 90.

Let it wind out to 14,000 or better but run it rich a bit for safety. it will really go.

My fiberglass guy is experimenting with retwisting an apc 11x7 to 11x9 or 11x10.

Where did you get the zinger 11x10 pusher? that would work.....

sorry for low news lately....the jet is in rebuild....when we put the Jett.90 stinger pusher muffler on it, we had to remount the motor upright and re run everything.... Hopefully 2 weeks.

Here is the place to buy the 11x10 directly from zinger

http://www.zingerpropeller.com/Pusher.htm

My keecat will be done in about two weeks

91 ASP (2 stroke) 11x10 zinger prop

Hoping to get about 90-95mph out of her

Pitch= speed

Learjet
I think that YS 110 can only be operated under 9800 rpms. Look up the max rpms for that engine. Make sure to select a prop to limit rpms below that. Zinger also makes 3 bladed pusher props also. You could use a 3 bladed pusher to load the engine below the operating rpms of the your YS and still match the thrust output of a high revving 2 stroke motor. http://www.zingerpropeller.com/3_bladed_Propeller.htm

Zinger has a nice conversion chart to convert 2 bladed props to 3. http://www.zingerpropeller.com/_2_blade_.htm

After I get a few flights on my keecat I will start experimenting using 2 and 3 bladed props for best speed/noise combinations.

Too bad APC does not make more pusher props options

AN O.S. 1.20 AX IS ONLY 1 1/2 OZ. MORE THAN AN O.S. 91 WITH SAME MOUNTING, ETC. 3.2 HP VS. 2.8. WHAT DO YOU THINK? ALSO MUFFLER WOULDN'T GET IN WAY OF RETRACTS. 91 MUFFLER IS VERY LONG.

I think that a 1.20 would make alot of thrust but you are limited to 12 inches for a prop due to the short gear, and it would be hard to find a prop. the 1.20 cannot turn as much rpm as required.

I have a buddy with one with a tower .75 on it turning an 11x7 and even though its not as quick as mine, its just as fast, over 100 mph. Its turning at 15,500 and mine turns the 11x8 at 14,400 with a ST.90.

I would experiement with the 11x10 before and see if you can get the power up on it.

Dub Jett makes a pusher version of his bad a$$ muffler if you call and special order it.

As far as mufflers, I had to mount the engine upright to get the good mufflers on it.

I have been very busy and havent been able to work on it, but this latest iteration is super tigre .ST.90 with graupner 11x8 (BALANCE IT!!) and a Dub Jett pusher muffler running 20% YS fuel and a #8 OS plug, ever so slightly rich. I havent run it fully yet.

On the graupner props, they are not designed for that speed, so you must balance it and keep an eye on it for cracks and nicks. If it gets a nick in it, scrap it. Its a catastrophic event to sling a blade. dont ask me how I know.

somehow I got it on the ground. or should I say grass.

STUPID QUESTION. ON A PUSHER PROP, DOES THE BRAND AND SIZE WORDING FACE TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE PLANE? IN OTHER WORDS, THE SAME AS YOU MOUNT A REGULAR PROP WITH ENGINE MOUNTED ON FRONT. GETS CONFUSING WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT AND I GET SEVERAL ANSWERS. ADVISE AND THANKS, JERRY

Well, it depends on the prop. The engine turns counter-clock wise and just make sure the prop is taking a bite out of the air in the proper direction. I have used some props that have the lettering facing forward and others that have it facing backwards so you can't really depend on that. The smooth end of the prop is the leading edge so when you go to put the prop on the engine, make sure the smooth edge is the one that is turning into the air. Does this help?

a bit off the current discussion, I bought a kee cat and stripped all the covering off. I am currently recovering it with ultracoat in the jolly rogers scheme. kind of like the bvm bobcat. its going pretty good, but i am having an issue with my cover over cover areas. I keep applying to much heat and the top part is shrinking to much. I will post some pictures soon.

There is a trick to monokote over monokote. You have to get it to stick without heat first

Use a lubricant such as Rapid Tac between layers. then use a credit card wrapped in a tissue to sqeegie out the liquid. It works kind of like putting a film on a window using soapy water. Let it dry before applying heat. Then use a cotton covered iron with med heat.

it works well. Then final shrink is just setting it in the sun.

OK. Well....time to really put some effort into making the ol' keecat fast. Or...at least as fast as this airframe will allow without a turbine. I am in the process of installing 91fx w/ Jett Pipe and 11x10 Zinger pusher prop. Hopefully it will work out well. I am also going to move the rudder servo's forward into the wing and then just run long rods to the rudders themselves. Also, will be moving the throttle servo far forward and taking out a few parts of unneeded wood. Still can't seem to get my video guy out with me. Next time for sure though...I know I keep promising video, but bare with me.

no trim solvent will mess it up.

you need a lubricant that evaporates. kind of like when we used to install tint on windows. It takes patience, not heat.

squeegie with no heat just using a credit card wrapped in a paper towel after the base coat is shrunk and done. Dont use a blower, just an iron with low/med heat after it dries the next day. It also lets you move it around and get it set. rapid tac feels smooth to the touch. I havent ever used anything else, so I dont know what else works, but its possible that one drop of soap in water might work.

If you saw my plane at toledo, it is monokote over monokote

learjet.

let us know what numbers you come with on the .91

I think its too much prop, so you will probably have to cut it down around 10 inches. my ST.90 turns the 11x8 graupner about 14000, havent run the jett muffler yet though. I turned the graupner down to 10 and 3/4 inches because it had a burr on the end and got 14,400 with the old Jtec muffler and torque tips. I think the Jett should give me 15,000.
