Yo Dude: If not carefull, your bro and this old man will surly kick your tail this year if by chance you stop by on the way to Mom's place. This years "Thing" is honestly about 2 times the speed of the old little 35 powered bird. Scary fast, hope it stays alive for a while. See ya. ENJOY

Flyboy,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I was on to Zinger as i will need something more than an 11x6 to load this engine up. I was thinking an 12x10 3 blade (for the Ys 80 using tuned muffler and 20% coolpower) Do you think this will have adequate groung clearance on rotation ?

Max Throws,
A 12 inch prop will be OK, if you are flying off of blacktop. If you are flying off of grass, it would have to be a well maintained surface.

Really useful stuff here, thanks guys - especially Flyboy for the gear mixing tip, brilliant!

I'm just putting a Keecat together - some of the "engineering", or rather lack of it, is a bit disturbing but it is a lovely looking model.

Have we all now agreed that the CG as per instructions is just plain wrong?

I have been doing this for an on-line build elsewhere so have a whole bunch of pictures and hints & tips to share. When I get the time, I'll upload them here.

Thanks again.

The CG as shown on the back cover of the instruction book will result in a crash. The aft CG along with the need for down elevator will not allow you enough down elevator to hold the nose down when you reduce power to land. Even with full down stick. Follow what I said in a previous post for the CG and elevator settings. I've built two and both were exactly the same. Nice flying model and a lot of fun but they should correct the insrtructtion manuel. They would have a lot more successes and sales.
Regards

Thanks Flyboy.

No mention of control throws in the "instructions" - what would you use on ailerons & elevator as a starting point?

I'll measure mine and let you know. The ailerons are very responsive.

The throws that I'm using are as follows. Elevator, 22mm, up and down. Ailerons, 7mm up and down, measured at the wing tip. Rudder, 20 mm left and right, measured at the top of the rudder. I think a pilot figure really dresses this model up because of the large cockpit. See the picture.

Thanks again flyboy!

I'm going to tint my canopy using Tamiya "Smoke" ...

My instructions show the CG at 197mm (~7.7" and if I've understood right, it needs to be more like 8.5"-9.5"? Just want to be sure what others have printed on their instruction so we can "calibrate" this thinking - if they update the manual somebody reading this thread could have an equally un-controllable model.

I'm not certain what the policy here on RCU is - Mod's can you give me some guidance? What the rules for posting URL's? I've got a full on-line build/review with lots of pictures on RCMF.co.uk here in the UK but I don't want to tread on any toes.

Guys,

Which would you say is he better of the 2 aircraft, the Keecat or the Bobcat 50?

I'm following Wiz-UK's Build here in Blighty and look forward to seeing his in action later this year at one of the many fly-ins we jointly attend.

I'm interested in finding out which model is a better choice also.
I have been looking at both and I think the Bobcat may be slightly better and cheaper.
Waiting for opinions.

C Hardy.
