Here'sa few picture of the plywwod plate I made to install the powerbox and receivers. I also took the back plate off the power box which is nothing but a cover plate and cut a ligthning hole in it. My finished painted plate is less than an ounce.

The power box comes with grommets to protect against vibration but I decided to mount it by using fuel tubing as an isolation mount with plastic screws for minimal weight.

Ok I finally put in on a scale. I had come up with 37lbs - 7oz by just adding up the different weights of various components but today I had a chance to weigh it and It is 37 lbs - 2 oz. This is ready to fly minus a pilot and a few tie wraps. I will be using a foam pilot from A.I. which is less than two ounces. When I started the project I had a target weight of 37 lbs which I could have gotten if I didn't use the five ounce powerbox and if I would've used lighter wheels but I'm very happy with the final result. The maiden will be next weekend if the weather allows it, I'll make sure to take some video and lots of pictures.

Hey Albert- where'd you get your wing tube from?

If you got it from TBM, which one did you get?

Dave

Hey Dave,
I get mine from TBM, I use the heavy wall version - .062 Part# JAE1.5x48H. Might be able to get away with the thin wall, but peace of mind is worth a few thousandths.

I just got one yesterday from DA. PBG Compsites .062 wall. It weighs 11 oz so a 5 oz savings over the stock Carden tube.

Ty- yea, I was looking at that thin wall tube - says under 37lbs- hmmmm. I guess I would go with the one you got.

Mark- how much is that tube you got from DA? I don't see it on their site.

$120 plus freight. DA actually sent me an extra one by mistake. If you want it let me know before I return it to DA. I'll just send it to you and have them credit/ rebill.

The ones on TBM site are a lot less. They were $99 the last time I looked. This morning they are listed at $60. Not sure what the difference is or who makes it though.

Yeah, for 1.8 oz of weight, the tube designed for 37 - 50# gives me that warm cozy feeling.

Kinda like a commercial flight that's overweight and they have one 180# guy get off. Yeah, that makes me feel much better.

Thanks wavy,

I love building as much as I love flying. Besides what would I do in the winter if it wasn't for building ? Actually my wife can probably come up with a thousand things I could do in the winter months but none that I'd like. LOL
Thanks again for your kind words. I will have a flight report as soon as the weather allows it.

Thanks
Albert

Just want to let all of you guys know that the maiden will be tomorrow. Since it's muddy here in PA I will be driving to long island in the morning to fly with Rob and Bob Teseo at their club field. I'll have pictures as well as a flight report tomorrow night.

Albert
