The turtle deck is now ready to be glued in place. I placed the turtle deck on the fuse as well as the rudder just for the picture. Time to go back to the basement and finish the rudder and turtle deck, next will be the horizontal stabs.

getting the stabs ready to sheet. I use a foam cutter from Michael's arts and crafts to cut the servo wire exit hole, because I'll be using a vaccum bagger I capped the slot made by the hot wire with a piece of balsa 1/8" wide by 1/4" deep.

Horizontal stabs are now ready to sheet which by the way is very easy since all of cardens balsa sheets come trued out of the box !

Dave,

I'll take a picture of the actual cutter later and post it. It basically works just like a soldering gun except that it accepts much smaller piano wire. It also heats up instantly.

albert, do you think you saved anything with the holes in the tube socket? i would think there may be some bending in this area with flight loads.

Nope.
The tube is completely removed inside the motor box on my Carden 260. ZERO issues.
The motor box and side formers do not allow any movement in this area.
It was a 1 oz savings for us. We did it for the cool factor more than anything else.

Not the correct Thread; but Congratulations Wayne, nice job in Tucson Shootout. Sounds like that 260 is a keeper.

I would be willing to bet that most of the bending action is where the fuse and wing meet, not in the center of the wing tube.

I did it for the cool looks more than anything, the weight savings was nothing.
