Man did I get lucky. I just bought a 1/8 Miss Budweiser on E-bay, my first gas boat. Before I even take delivery I'm looking online for ways to make the boat as good as possible, and I come across this thread. SWEET !! Thanks in advance for all the ideas. I'll keep you posted when I start work.

I put 8 oz in the nose and I moved my rear wing down about 3 mm.

Lake pirate, slot the rear wing screw hole in both tails. Be sure they have a slight radius so the rear wing screws can move without binding so you can adjust the angle of the wing. Just remember, THE REAR WING IS FOR FINE TUNING THE BOAT'S ATTITUDE, NOT SUPPORTING THE REAR OF THE BOAT. The rear of the boat is supported by the prop and air pressure UNDER THE BOAT AND NOT UNDER THE WING.
I would recommend moving weight forward(primarily the radio gear) and shimming the strut before adding weight. If you must add weight, use stick on weights on the front of the sponson decks, then drill an access hole in the sponson and add epoxy and lead shot equal to the weight of the stick on weights. I think you will find you will need less wieght that way.

Hey Guys , believe it or not but I cut off my wing. The boat is sitting much better ( with more nose down , you don`t have any wind pressure on the wing )
I also tried putting the wing 3 - 4 mm down , but cutting it off is much better for me.
Now my boat is running 50 + mhp
I`m still looking for a better prop , right now I am running the 6717/3 modefied.

Does someone have a better prop then the 6717/ 3 ?

Guys.

I'm a new owner of the 1/8 Miss Llumar. I've only got a few tanks through it and i'm slowly starting to tweak things.

My first question (of many!) is in regard to opening up the cowling for more air flow. It has the four holes drilled in the clear lexan, but nothing else.

Will I drown (or flameout) the engine if I open this up? Even though it's water cooled, i would assume it would benifit from some more air flow.

I really enjoy the boat so far.

Regards,
Steve

As an added measure, I highly recommend adding autobailers at the rear transom to help drain any water that does come through.

Done!

Also,
Is there a certain prop that will lift the transom? I'm running the stock Octura 2 blade prop.

Thanks,
Steve

8thscale , I have tried a lot off props but still none off them can beat the 6717 /3 . I have tried e.g. 6516 /3 but did not beat the 6717/3 ( I have sharpened and brought the prop 6717/3 it to a weight off 2 grams )
Maybe there is someone out there that has a better prop for this boat.

As posted earlier, I use a custom cut, balanced and sharpened 6717/3 stainless steel prop. I also use a balanced and sharpened Prather 270 prop with good results.

Pilot g, I noticed you are still using the stock rudder with the separate water pickups. One of your first mods should be replacing the stock turn fin and removing the water pickups from the mounting bracket with a good speedmaster or equivalent rudder that have integrated grooves for water pickup in the blade itself. The separate water pickups in the stock rudder bracket create a lot of drag at the rear of the boat making the rear drag and sink more. You'll notice that with the shimmed strut and lifting prop without the stock water pickups, the rear will lift a bit more. Take a look at the picture of my rudder mounting bracket and you'll notice that they have been removed completely.

Hi Pilot, here is my post from the first page of this thread for your exact question:

"The rudder is a Speedmaster that you can pick up from www.rossisales.com direct or www.rocketcityracing.com. When you order, make sure you specify you need a right control arm or they will send you a left arm for rudders mounted starboard. I am using the stock bracket from the boat that was milled to fit the new rudder. You will either have to do the same or retrofit a new bracket to the boat for this rudder."
