Got my motor today. Took it apart, always do on new motor. The lower rod dosnt have oil holes. also the transfere ports on the top are a negetive angle pointing down. Is this standard. usually the transfere are level or up and towards the back to the boost. Appreciate some input. rich b. thanks.

Hi Rich...

Thanks for writing.

First off..... every Jett engine is run at the factory before you receive it. It is not your typical engine - and Dub takes great care at assembly and testing to ensure every engine meets performance criteria before it is delivered. The shop run addresses the initial risk to the rod, and the carb low speed mixture is pre-set so the engine is ready for the final bench break-in on your end.

Disassembling the new Jett engine is generally not a good idea. No general risk here, but take care in re-assembly. Take great care to ensure the head bolts are properly torqued down, and re-check the bolt torque after the first couple of engine runs.

The engine design features you describe appear accurate, and I will verify this with Dub. The 90LX porting is indeed unique, and is different from the standard SJ-90L in a few ways.

Bob

I love to answer these kind of questions, which by the way are good ones. Nevertheless, I get to lecture a bit:

First. I have a saying: If you assume the obvious you are probaby wrong. It is obvious that rods need oil holes, right. Well, guess what? They don't. The majority of the pumping is done by the motion of the rod moving up and down on the crank journal. Sort of like flopping your underarms and hands to make crude sounds in Jr. High....Every time it flops from the top of the journal to the bottom it creates a vacuum in the gap, sucking in more oil.

Also, the majority of rod breaks are through the oil holes, so we learned (by not listening to the "Experts" that you do not need the holes and that, in fact, the holes make them weaker.

This brings us another of my sayings, " People who say, "I know for a fact", usually have their facts wrong." Be careful of the advice you get at the field.

Finally, the ports on sport engines will bring in more air and fuel if they do not have the angles. Mine do not have angles. The high rpm racing engines do.

Thanks for the questions.
