Status: offline 		I'm planning on putting a .40 in mine. I guess I'm used to high wing load planes that need power all the time to fly. I'm also used to wing tip stall and snap rools. I lost more than one plane from having to try to turn the plane after a dead stick.

Good job on not crashing yours yet....

I will do my best to put in my most reliable running engine and see how long I can make mine last.....

Mines Electric. I used Hitec hs225MG servos - AXI 2820/12 with 4S-1P 3200 15C Li-Po's Draws about 38-40 AMPS. Havent maidened it yet, but came in only 2 oz. over the weight listed on the box.

Built easy, and looks good. Now if the D%%% rain will go away I can see if it flies as good as it looks. Everybody complained about the CG, but nobody gave their CG after tweaking. Same with the throws. Once you get the plane flying well, it sure would help the rest of us if you could be specific as to the changes you made to get it to work.

One good thing about electric, no deadsticks unless you dont watch your battery level and try to fly forever.

I haven't got there yet. I think 2.5" behind the LE is a little too nose heavy. Tommorow I should be able to fly the plane again and have a further update.

I tried to keep mine as light as I could and still came out at 4.25lbs. I didn't add any lead and I am using a .25 size engine.

Status: offline 		This is how I have it set up so far. The high rates are a little hot..

Low rates: Ailerons 5/16" Elev 1/4" Rudd 3/4"

High rates: Ailerons 1/2" Elev 1/2" Rudd 1 1/4"

I don't use expo much. I have about 15% on the high rates and none on low.

CG is at 2.75" back from the leading edge now and it seems fine.


I would start out with a little less on the high throws than I stated and work your way up. It is rather responsive on the high side.

Status: offline 		Just received mine, and I am pleased to see someone finally posted some facts like CG and throws. I almost passed on this plane when I read the reviews complaining on how it didn't fly like a high wing trainer................The kit is not the best, lousy instructions, poor parts choices, but hey, thats what we build planes for, the challenge. Have an OS .32SX with pitts muffler for it, modifying the landing gear slightly.....
Will let you all know if this thing flies, or not.

Status: offline 		I'm confused on your CG settings. You mentioned the plane was tail heavy so you got it down and then moved the CG forward? I am 1/2 done with mine and am concerned with getting the CG right...........

Status: offline 		I have been flying mine now (since the weather was nice here for a while) but i used the 2.5" CG and i had to add almost 10oz of lead to the front but on low rate its flies well for me. I am finally starting to get good w/ the plane and I am able to fly it on high rates. The only problem i have w/ mine is my OS .32SX its kind of a touchy thing

Status: offline 		Still working on mine but making progress. Hard when there are no LHS in this entire country, I have to order everything off the internet.
Still waiting on the radio flight pack and a landing gear and fuel tank. Hopefully will get the maiden flight(s) in before it gets too too hot here..

Status: offline 		I've just started on mine. Awesome looking plane! I hope I can get it to fly well. I think the Saito .40 in the nose will move the CG a bit forward and help calm it down a bit. I'm open to any more suggestions on throws and balance, or any other issues anyone has had. Is anyone REALLY happy with this plane? Todd

Status: offline 		It is a good looking airplane. I have mine almost ready to fly, problem is it is now summer here and not nice flying in 110 degree heat. I try to get out early mornings around 0600 or so, but still................
Ill post some photos later today. I put an OS .32 in with pitts muffler and have it cowled in pretty nicely. I have run the engine in, and now am finishing adding the fuel fill system, glow plug and needle valve access holes. Also have a new .40 size landing gear I want to make work with the wheel pants. Hopefully I will see how it flies shortly................

Status: offline 		I maidened mine today. Put the engine as far forward as possible (cut up the cowl to do it).

Had a 2.5 oz heavy hub + 6 or so ounces of weight on it.. Was at 4lb 10 ozs...

Using a Magnum .25 XL engine w/ 9x6 prop.

Put on heavier wheels at field to get through grass (a gift). First two runs with low elevator would not lift off.

Did a final run with more elevator, sure enough lifted off. Slow climb, built some speed, and then flew pretty good for a pig. May be a decent sport plane with a bit more lightening. No snap on loops (still relatively low rates) and very fast. Penetrates great. I needed about 10 clicks of up and I suspect it is a bit nose heavy. If I can peel off a little more weight and get some foam tires expect to be 8 ounces lighter - that would make a big difference.

Anyway, landed it hot, but without incident. Field had unraked grass clipings on it and they slowed it down good.

Weighted it when I got home w/ the heavy wheels - 4lbs 15.5 ounces dry (call if 5 lbs)... 30 oz/sqft wing loading... So, Pigs do fly...

Status: offline 		Another update. Just got back from the field. Put lighter wheels on and took off more lead. Down to 4lbs 10.7oz... Can still be lighter...

Windy day.

Three flights, all went well.

Almost went dead stick on an inverted loop. Engine did not like that at all.

Lots of belly coupling on knife edge (nose heavy??).

Right now it balances perfectly on the conservative CG and it way nose heavy on the rear CG. Will slowly move CG back.

I made my prior (first flight) high elevator and aileron rates low and dialed up the highs. It does blindingly fast rolls with ailerons on high now….

My impression now is:

- Fairly fast, but not insanely
- Great for snaps, rolls, (perhaps knife edge someday), and loops
- Limited vertical due to weight and power (.25 Magnum XL)
- Slows down and lands fine once you know what to expect

Overall not a total dog, but nothing like the 3dhobbyshop Extra SHP.

Just a different animal.

Hah! You're not flying hard enough!

I've had, cold solder joints give, ESC's cut out due to temps, bearings go, prop holders break, motor connectors loosen off in flight, motor mounts break, etc.

Electrics have not been far behind the glows in deadsticks for me.

Status: offline 		I maidened mine this weekend. The first few flights with CG at about 2 3/4 it was obvious that the plane was tail heavy still. I had the Saito .40 in the front, plus the battery AND 6 oz. of lead IN the cowl. Plus the weight of the wood holding the battery in the cowl. The plane dragged its tail around the sky at anything but full throttle, and snaps out of loops even with light elevator and high speed entry. I added another 3-4 Oz of lead up front and It helped both these issues a bit, but they are still present. I have yet to pull off a full loop. Rolls are nice and axial. But overall flying the thing is a bit nerve-racking. The wing loading is way high(no scale but I can tell) so you can't "Throw it around" much. I think some of my problems may be poor coupling between the 2 elevator halves and causing some roll. But even when trying to correct with ailerons and entering at dive speed....no loop. Landing is OK , But you have to keep it FAST, and I've already bent the gear on a nice 3 point on pavement. Really nice looking plane, I just wish I could get it to fly a little more like a fun fly plane and less like a pig scaler. I actually had a engine out situation over some pine trees today and lost sight about 30 ft up and it went in(not much glide!lol) I walked out expecting to find a bag of bits , walked around with my Tx listening for servo noise for about 10
