JR is having a problem with some of there 8611a's they seem to have bad motors causing the servos to lock up. there is a warning on horizons web site.
i had one go bad and start twitching on the elevator after 30 flights and jr replaced it, the i had a rudder servo lock on the ground after around 60 flights and jr replaced it. then on a new comp arf extra on the 1st day after 12 flights the elevator servo locked causing a power overload on the receiver and the plane was a total loss. JR REPLACED THE BAD SERVO AGAIN AND ALSO REPLACED A CUSTOMER THAT SPENT OVER 8000.00 IN RADIOS AND SERVOS LAST YEAR WITH A NEW FUTABA CUSTOMER. i can't trust my airplanes with this kind of problems and service any more.

please check yours as per jr instuctions

Can you post a link to the bulliten.

this is the only one i see listed that takes me to a service bulliten.

Product Bulletin:
DS8611 Ultra Torque 220/260 Digital[JRPS8611]

The 8611 is widely known as the favorite high performance servo for its unmatched digital precision, 260 oz/in of torque, and refined, rugged metal alloy gear train.

To handle the loads imposed on the gear train, the original case top featured bushing supports for all gear pins.

We’ve become aware however, that certain excessive momentary loads (like those imposed by flutter or the accidental bumping of a surface) may cause the bushing to break loose in the case top and result in excessive play in the servo’s output arm.

Retrofit of damaged case tops is simple: Horizon Service Center will either replace any flyer’s 8611 servo case tops when returned for service or will supply the owner with a replacement case top free of charge.

For further assistance, please contact our product support department at 877-504-0233 or return your 8611 servo/s to:

Ok so if you have a plane with 11 of these in it, how do you trust the test. I had one lock over three weeks ago that I bought in Feburary. I was able to saze the plane but it trashed the landing gear and tail wheel. The servo is at Horizon now for testing.

I only have 7 in my plane but what i did first was burn them in for a hour on a tester before installing them. but im still a little leary, and do have some gear slop ONLY after 10 flight.

p.s. mine i bought all new off the internet. so i have no idea when they were purchaced

Hi Guy's

I had one lock for the 1st time Yesterday. This was the # 1 Rudder servo it had 2 other in line and the rudder was locked solid.

Not sure what went wrong but it is locked up solid.

This was on my SuperXtra that has 22 Flights so Far. The Servo locked up on the ground.
These are JR 8611

Correct me if I am wrong here.....but doesn't the 8611a use the same motor from the same manufacture as the HiTec 5955??

If this is the case....it looks like the Hitec 5955's made during that period may be suspect as well.

JR parts and Hitec parts (motors) made in the same factory?

Thats either REAL scary, or your just flame baiting to get a good one going.

The skeptic in me says that is too easy since they are the ones having the problems with motors. It could be true, but I wouldn't believe it at face value. Remember these are also the ones that used to say that the Evolutions gas engines were NOT made by MVVS.

How true.

This was several months ago, so this was before the current problems. Or at least before they informed anyone of the current problems.

Status: offline Hi Pat,

Since you and others have mentioned beta testing the 5955/5995 has and is the same servo since release day one with the exception of an updated resistor value to accommodate an OEM compatibility issue specific to Futaba PCM RX’s. Those of you that see fit to moan and groan about this oversight have a valid complaint. That said if there were industry standards and or tolerances that all OEM’s adhered to these conundrums would not be realized. Every OEM has issues with OEM product compatibility, need I go on…

And on the other hand JR users have been beta testing the 8611 and now the NEW and improved 8611a ’s since day one. The evolutionary cycle exists with case top upgrades, motor upgrades and gear set refinements. Problems still exist with premature gear-train wear and motor failures. FWIW the 8611 uses the same potentiometer and motor supplier as Hitec’s 5955/5995. The primary difference is the digital amplifiers and the gear-trains.

so, it looks like he might have been telling the truth.
