Okay Guy's, I recently aquired my first plane with a big Super Tigre engine (3250). I only have one gallon of Byron ST mix fuel which is what I am told will give best performance from this engine. However, Byron ST fuel is difficult to get in my area. What other fuels will these big ST's run well on? The ST website says 10% Nitro, 16% oil (castor, synthetic or a mixture of both).
Just want to know what everyone else is using.

Lets see if I can pass on some more info to you. I have two ST3000 engines. I run Cool Power 5% in them with no problems. I have also run homebrew fuel with 5% nitro and 15% oil. The oil that I used in it was Klotz Techniplate for alochol. Ieven ran it with no nitro till it got winter which made it very cold natured. I quit running homebrew because the guy I was getting it from quit running his top fuel dragster.

Powermaster makes a very good Super Tigre fuel. They can ship it to you in quart bottles to avoid the outlandish hazardous material shipping fee. You want to stay with a low nitro fuel with the big Tigre, usually 5%.

I've been mixing a gallon of 15% with a gallon of methanol for years now. My first Tigre runs as strong as ever. I'm running six of 'em along with two Webra Bullys and a Saito 270 on the same fuel.

I recently broke in an ST-3000 with 64ozs (4 tanks) Wildcat 15%/18% oil. I ran another 16oz with Tower 15% cut with 50% Methonol ($2.00 per gallon) -- no problems.

I finally flew my H9 Cap with another 16ozs of Tower/Methonol and had great idle, hi end (7000+ with 18x10 prop), and excellant transition.

Tower 15% cut with 50% Methonol gives you a fuel that is 7.5% Nitro and 9% oil.

I've seen posts on here and RCONLINE that recommend 5% nitro with 5% oil. The Byron's ST fuel I purchased had 10% nitro and 10% oil.

AND....that equals out to $7.50 a gallon for 7�% ST fuel in my area!!!

Thanks Guy's, Lot's of valuable info here. I will give some of these formula's a try. I only have 1 gallon of the Byron ST mix left and that will be gone on Thursday if the weather cooperates!

Rob, try the FAI fuel from Byron (0% nitro only). Worked well for me.

Yeah!!!

But I only paid $5.00 each for 4 gallons of Tower Hobby 15% -- works out to $3.50 per gallon ST fuel.

My Super Tigre 3000 manual calls for 10-12% oil and specifically states that an oil content of normal fuel (18+%) is detrimental to the engine. I was able to pick up from a station here in Ct, straight Methanol for $3 a gallon. Mixing that with fuel containing 10-15% Nitro and 20% oil gives me home-brew ST fuel of 5-7.5% Nitro and 10% Oil for about $9 a gallon.

The shop from which I buy Methanol sells in a sealed 5 gallon drum. Remember once you open a can to transfer the Methanol to one-gallon fuel containers and seal them tightly for future mixing.

Hi, I saw your post on cutting fuel.. interesting! I recently picked up a 33% bi plane from a club member the other day, the guy has a Webra Bully glow engine in it and has told me he has been running Super T fuel. I think he said it's like 10% nitro and 10% or less on the oil content. He also mentioned something about a Supertiger fuel for it, but I'm clueless on that one. He also said that if there is too much oil in the fuel it plugs things up inside the motor and could possibly blow it up. So I guess I'm asking if you know of something I could use as a supplement for it. Can you help out?

Rob,
Give Stan a call over at S&W hobby, he's not too far from you. He'll make you up a nice ST blend that will make it run like a million bucks. Don't have to worry about supply issues since he's close by.

Higher-oil fuels are detrimental to PERFORMANCE, not to the engine in general. You won't damage your engine running a higher-oil fuel.

I wrecked my Ryan Sta trying to use 18% oil content. It certainly was detrimental when the engine loaded up and quit. I had to buy a new crankshaft. The engine ran like a jewel when I used Byron's Supertigre fuel. Thank-you Byron Originals.
