What would you recommend for a Morris Hobbies Su-Do-Koi (sp), I'm looking for a very powerful engine that will have very good linear power response, with a real good midrange. Currently have a 53 Morris (Rossi) engine on it, and having trouble with it overheating, even with head gaskets in it, on 15% S&W fuel.

Hi there....

Thank you for writing.

Two options here.
1) Use a Jett Stream muffler on the Rossi and prop it so it runs at about 13,500 rpm. The Jett-stream muffler works a bunch better than the stock rossi muffler for a variety of reasons. My personal experience has shown that the stock muffler ends up being the cause with most Rossi problems. Turning a prop at about 13,500 peak rpm will keep the engine off of the muffler boost for most of the throttle range. It will give you the top end kick you need when you go to full power.

2) Jett now offers two new engines developed especially for this application. The .60L or the .65L are both in a .40 size case. Available in either the cast case or the BSE case.

You use a non tuned muffler, but get the advantage of haveing all that displacement crammed into the small package. Jett offers a new muffler too, currently called the Lite-Jett that weights only 1.3OZ, making the total package weight a mere 15 oz for the .65L BSE and a little lighter for the .65L cast case.

Price of the engines are 275 for the .60L and 295 for the .65L. BSE is 40.00 more.

You can contact Dub directly at jett@jettengineering.com if you wish some more performance data on the new engines.

I hope this has been helpful!

Thanks much for the help, got a tuned long pipe on the rossi engine now, what pipe are you recommending for it, or should i keep that pipe. Like the idea of the 65L engine with the lite pipe. Will that lite pipe fit my rossi?

Hi...

For the Jett 65L, you will not want to run a pipe, just the lite muffler. Does not need a pipe, and really can not benefit from it as it is not really pipe timed. It will just add weight.

From what you described, you were attempting to get away from the 'pipe-step' feel of the engine to give you a smooth, linear midrange. A full length tuned pipe is worst in that respect.

The Lite-Jett is a true muffler... no tuning effect. Dub does make adapters to fit most engines if you wish to try one on the Rossi.

Thanks much for the help, am gonna look into the 65L with lite muffler.
