I did something similar. I used two holes, one on each side of the turbine with rubber grommets to protect the lines. One side was for the three air lines, and the other for the flap and aileron leads. made for a neat, clean easy to route installation.

I put one hole on each side, so as to segregate right and left leads, and so as to not be so close to the turbine.

I suspect, but am not sure, that running the airlines may be harder on the new wing. I do not have the old wing to check. It's certainly not an insurmountable problem, but I think it's one of those things that the factory could improve upon, either with pre-installed air lines, or flexible tubes pre-installed.
Anybody have pics of the old fuselage versus the new?

I will be pulling mine out of the box later to show a friend. I will try to get a picture for you. My T-45 is second on my winter project list. Have to put my Panther together first.

"Cheeky monkey"? Now, that's a little TOO British!

What I ended up doing is combining some of the ideas here and combine them.

I put a wheel collar on a string and dropped it from the gear mounts to the aileron bay and out. I put a screw into one airline, taped them all together, and pulled them out through the aileron bay, then dropped the collar and string back in and got it to the wing center section, and followed it with the airlines. Two steps, so you don't have to try to get the lines to do a 180 and follow the string.
Getting very close to done, it's an awfully nice plane.

I have finished assembling my new wing. It was not till I went to fit it to the fuse, that I realised that there was no pre-drilled holes (4) to bolt the wing on. The blind nuts are fitted for each individual wing & fuse at the factory. It took me three hours to fit the wing on using the existing blind nuts in the fuse. I did think of fitting a new set, but getting at the area is nearly impossible due to the air intakes. Enjoy!

Regards

Jim

Hi Guys,

My T-45 has flown at last!

A very gusty 17 mph wind at 45deg across the runway was far from ideal. However the T-45 handled the conditions well.

The take of run was uneventful with the Hawk accelerating rapidly and gently lifting off with half flap set. I kept the climb-out fairly shallow and tucked the wheels away quickly. The Super Bee was accelerating the hawk very well despite the 17mph headwind.

The first turns across and downwind were smooth and felt safe with no tendency to drop a wing. On the down wind leg I fed in a couple of up clicks on the elevator and if I remember correctly a couple on the ailerons. Haven’t checked out where the trims ended up yet. In fact I haven’t unpacked the car yet!

The rest of the flight was great. Inverted required a little forward stick to maintain level flight. The c of g I’d set at 120mm back from the leading edge as per Yang’s recommendation. The T-45 is perfectly safe at this figure but my next outing will be with it 125mm back.
Knife-edge flight was achieved easily. A whole circuit was travelled in knife-edge and it all felt very comfortable. It was difficult to assess if there was any role coupling, as with the gusty wind it had to be flown all the time.
Reversals and loops were O.K. but required a fair degree of energy management. The gust wind did make it very difficult to do anything neatly. That’s my excuse anyway!

Photo 1 is a fast fly-by
Photo 2 is a wheels down, half flap, pre-landing pass.
Photo 3 is the landing approach.
Phot0 4 is the landing

Ah, the landing!
During the landing circuit all felt solid and under control. The aileron gyro must have been working well as keeping the wings level just wasn’t an issue. The landing speed was very low with a high angle of attack. The rear wheels touched down gentle shortly followed by the nose wheel. One of my better landings and on a maiden too!

Well-done Jet Legend!

Eric

Congratulations Eric. At last a successful flight. This will give all of us the confidence to fly our JL T45s.
Can you list the setup, throws etc that you used & any alterations to them you advise. I realise it will be difficult to be precise, given the gusty conditions.
I look forward to reading the article in RC Jet International in which ever edition you manage to get it in.
Regards

Jim

Great report Eric!!

I too am interested in your control throws. I felt that 115-120 mm C.G. was the number to shoot for. Any bad things happen when you lowered the flaps? What was your takeoff and landing flap deflections? How much elevator mixing with flaps?

I can't wait to build my new kit. I have rubbed out the paint on all surfaces like my last T-45 to bring out a nice shine. Doing this on my new kit highlighted a number of blemishes and pink colored spots in the resin. None of this existed in my last kit. Anyway, all parts are neatly lined up waiting for the completion of my PST Panther.
