I flew mine without them. The plane handled just fine. The Hawk version of this plane does not have them and the T-45 version we have here is basically the same airframe. I did put the ventral fin and tail hook in place so it looked like a real Navy bird. My new T-45 will not have the wingletts.

I now have about 30 flights on my T45 & have it set up the way I like.
This jet really is a delight to fly. It has no vices & lands easily.
I wish they would do a Hawk in the Red Arrows scheme so I could get another one.

Regards

Jim

30 flights I haven't been able to get 30 turbine flights this year! Combination of crap weather and lack of models when the weather has been good.

Has your Scorpion arrived yet, and if so, what do you think?

John. I have nothing to do all day but build & fly my jets. The weather here certainly helps. The sun shines 340 days a year.
No I haven't received the Scorpion yet. Mark told me he posted it last Monday, so it should be here soon.
Have test flown my Graupner Mb339. Still to paint it. Scorpion next project. Oh & I keep finding reasons to put off test flying the F18F.

Meps. Sorry, no video. I wouldn't know where to begin.

Regards

Jim

One thing to check after a few flights are the glue fillets on the main gear mounting plates.
I noticed I had some play in the main gear. On checking, I found the glue fillets on the main gear mounting plates had crumbled & mostly disappeared. Some epoxy & carbon tow sorted that out.

Guys:

I mounted the mains tonight and ran into a little quirk. When I rotated the main wheels so that they were tracking straight, upon retraction they are sticking out of the wheel wells a little on one side. This is due to the fact that the gear retracts at an angle and therefore the wheels do not sit "straight" in the wells. Did any of you encounter this and how did you fix it? I planned on mounting the main gear doors but this would cause them to stop about 1/16" short of being closed. Any ideas??

Hello Woody,

I got my T-45 last week, thanks to Mike in Cali, I have not looked much at the gear and mounting it, but can you shim the retract to get the wheel to move into the wheel well.. If you get your doors in before me post some pictures, it looks like that its going to be kind of tricky getting the doors in...... What servos are you going with on the wing. ailerons and flaps. I want to get some ordered so I can work on the wing and get it complete... One thought on the main gear doors is to acutation with a servo just make a hatch on the top of the wing were it meets the fuse... Cant wait to get mine in the air...

Later

Thanks David, I'll give that a try. It is just barely sticking up so a small shim should do it. As for servos I have the following:

Ailerons FUT S9650
Elevator FUT S9351
Rudder HiTec 125MG
Flaps FUT S9202

Working on mounting the control surfaces to the new wing now. Does anyone have any additional flight reports to post?

Has anyone else flown their T45 yet. If so what are your impressions.

Got the gear closing sorted out. Thanks for the tips guys. Has anyone tried to make the airbrakes functional yet? I cut out all of the air slots in them and they look great. I am thinking about making them functional, but there is not a lot of room at the hinge point to attach hinges that are very substantial. I was thinking of cutting out the inner surface of the brake and gluing in a piece of ply that I could screw/glue the carbon fibre hinges to and also a carbon fibre horn could be slotted in. That should give it enough rigidity to stand up to high loads. Any thoughts?
