I saw this rc from a Toys R Us commercial... it is a good thing to let people get introduced to the hobby, but it makes the real hobby-grade rcs look like toys. Good thing I switched to nitro (oh wiat, hasbro made a nitro... damn)

the jump was definetly photoshopped, the definition is all wrong and the light on the track and on the car is wrong. I think those shadows are in fact reflections but in grey.

and chris, it's suprisingly easy to photoshop isnt it, with the magic wand and the magnetic thingy i can do anything

Could someone explain all the negative comments? Yes, the design is completely based off a RC18, but why does that matter to you? It offers a hobby class offroader with the already listed FM equiptment, seperate esc, oil shocks, bearings, and so on. Also, not sure if it was posted, but it is going to have about 20(somewhat overpriced) replacement and upgrade parts on release.

I think it's a great opportunity to introduce new youngsters into the hobby. Many parents buy their children r/c cars from radioshack for Christmas and birthdays (if they didn't, radio shack wouldn't sell them). Rather than some of these kids becoming discouraged with less than stellar performance and being talked down to by fellow hobbiests and hobby shops as far as fixing or upgrades, they can now have get a better toy that can be fixed, improved, and YES raced at the local track.

Without seeing the radio shack imported car in person yet, I'm not willing to say it isn't hobby grade (especially since the electronics are certainly "hobby grade" . A few years ago, Traxxas wasn't considered by many as "hobby grade". CEN and Smartech are a couple more examples of companies that even still are accused of being lesser than hobby grade. Why not wait until you've had a chance to look at the actual vehicle before making assumptions?

yes I understand your point, I am not saying is bad, I just think that for example the rc18t looks more like a quality rc car than the radio shack, well nobody can judge this car until it is released.

I agree that the associated looks like a nicer vehicle.

Yes the AE is a higher quality vehicle, but it comes at an extra fee.

Thats not true. The TCP series and even before the Blue Eagle. RTR Traxxas came later. Believe it or not at one time they had a race team and were seriously into electronic off-road racing. I actually miss the Traxxas of old.

(Edit: I just dated myself didn't I?)

Mini Me, you need to loook a little further in Traxxas history. Their "Sledge Hammer" was their first "quality" r/c vehicle. It was available as both a kit or RTR. Back then, it was called junk, toy, not hobby grade, etc. Prior to that was the Traxxas Cat and Fiero GTP (which was an on-road car with a gear differential). The traxxas bullet was a bit better, but still not up to snuff. It was too heavy and handled poorly. The shocks leaked, and it was slow. Traxxas was still considered "toy grade" when they launched their "Blue Eagle" stadium truck and "TRX1" buggy. Their Nitro Hawk stadium truck was looked down upon as substandard.

Perhaps I dated myself as well as I remember seeing Traxxas arrive at the hobby shops back in '86.
