That's what I thought. I have heard the "Well I have/seen/know a guy w/" a nitro crawler that will out crawl a Stick easy.

Still haven't seen a pic, or a video.

Hell draw me a picture!

Note. My sons $25.00, 1/18 scale, electric, Wal Mart Nylint toy will take a curb w/o issue!

That thing was horrible and I don't even have any rock crawling experience . A nitro crawler will probably have to be about 80% costum to keep up with some of those electrics. However I do think it can be done if its built by someone who knows what they are doing (unlike the person in that video... the gearing was way to high for rock crawling and it even stalled on him though the tune didn't sound to bad it was a little rich on bottom end).

i actually look forward to seeing a nitro vehicle, with this extremely low gearing that you guys are talking about, go to work on some rock crawling terrain... what im thinking, is like, its the instantaneous amount of torque which it gives out the moment you put throttle on that you need , make it so that the engine isnt exposed to load on the rpm's below its torque maximum....is it possible for a clutch to exist that does not just simply engage or disengage, but to slip over a wide rpm range between fully engaging and fully disengaging, the more engagement, the more friction, the more torque...

yeah, your gonna need a custom chassis to crawl allright, not just cuz its nitro, the electric crawlers are mostly custom jobs as well, the more a nitro has in common with these crawlers the more it is ... uhh... a crawler

who ever said that it was a rock crawler? on his build up forum in rccrawler he never said that is was going to be a rock crawler anywhere in his topic. that is why he calls it a Tuff truck meaning all terrain truck. the Tuff truck will go in some places that that a rock crawler can never make it though (mud, go up steep dirt/sand hills, and you don't have to wait 30 minutes for the battery to charge). also, he has done a bunch of other improvement since that video. he has regeared it "goes walking speed", put aluminum clutch shoes, installed fans in it, and moved some of the stuff around on it.

It's the closest thing to a "nitro" rock crawler I have been able to find, and he did post it on RC CRAWLER so it think it's fair game.

As for going places a electric won't????

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't steep rock faces something tackled every day in normal crawling?

And nitro better in the mud than electric?

I guess you didn't see this years RC Olympics, the electric rock crawlers were the only vehicles that made it through the pit.

About 50 Nitros tried, but like crawling, super hi RPMs and lack of low end torque were there down fall.

Nitro rock crawlers are like BIG FOOT, millions has seen it, but no one has any proof.

hey dezfan, i don't mean to sound rude or anything, i'm just trying to get my point across. i have seen this truck run in person and in comps. the owner of the truck is a pretty good friend of mine.

1st- for something to be on rc crawler it does not have to be a straight up rock crawler. think about the scale rigs. scale rigs are more for all terrain "they do ok on the rocks but there more for the hard core dirt trails."

2nd- i wasn't talking about rock faces. i was talking about dirt/sand hills. when i was at the comp there was a sand hill and the tuff truck made it up pretty easy and my 2.2 just barely made it up and i was using my RR tires. he made it up because of the HP it had.

3rd- i agree with the tmaxxes, savages, revos,.... not going throw the mud because they do not have enough torque but the tuff truck has plenty of torque since he regeared it. it has so much now that he really can't even take it in the big rock because it brakes the ring and pinion all the time.

Sorry if I came across as being upset, I'm not. I'm just tired of hearing over and over again about all of these nitro crawlers.

The BIG FOOT analogy holds true.

Here's my TROXX tranny I've had it going on 4 yrs. Of course all metal gearing(19/35 gearing), top speed is 7mph, tons of torque

ya, i agree. i thought the same thing until i saw it run. once you see one run you start to think it is possible to make a real rc rock crawler. i guess it's one of thoughs things that you have to see to appreciate it. i'll try to post up some updated pics of it later so you guys can check it out.
