I'm going to order one of them tomorrow, I've sold a couple of my YSs lately, I'll put it on a TeleMaster 60. I'll break it in on WildCat 15%/18% 80/20 and a Fox Miracle plug.

12/8, 13/6, 14/4 would be a better choice. Try to keep that RPM beteen 9000-10,000 ready to fly.

I have debated with myself for a long time. I just don't know if this engine can handle a 14-4 prop. I might try it. As it is, slaming the throttle has a split secand lag. But that is from idle to full. 1/4 to fuel and above as no lag.

I think it all comes down to how much fiddling do you want to do, what you expect for an idle, and your willingness to deal with a lemon if you get one. I really need a motor that will idle under 2000 rpm consistantly, I know how to tune an engine but have little patience for mechanical problems, and I really hate products that don't perform due to sloppy tolerences. Having said that, I think OS and Saito are my best bet. I read cust feedback on products, and have found that if there is considerable negative opinion about a product, by people who have used it, it may be something to stay away from. A case in point would be a Magnum .91 I bought last year, it would never idle below 2500 rpm. Other people, I found out where having the same issue, and If I had spent another $50.00, I would still have that engine, and would be enjoying it today; instead of having to turn around and spend more money on an engine that did perform properly. All I would say about any product or service is do the research, and understand what you are buying and the quality associated with it. I spend my life fixing high priced junk and have spent alot of time explaining to cust. why a $10,000 plus dollar stove etc does not work properly.

Off topic, but what do you think of Vulcan ranges?

I have never worked on one, I assume its an actual restuarant range vs a high end residential range. I work on mostly high end residential appliances. I generally would not recommend a true restuarant grade product for home use for any number of reasons. I will say that most of your higher end product is more trouble prone then the more main stream stuff and more expensive to fix as well. the brands I do warranty service for are Asko, Viking, Wolf ,Sub Zero, Thermador, Bosch, Uline, Marvel, etc.

Lets get back on topic. Questions and answers like the last two are better handled through the PM system of RCUniverse

I have a (discontinued) Magnum .61rfs that turns 10,500 with a 13-4W on 15%. I would stay away from a ABN sleeved four stroke. Spend the extra couple dollars and get a magnum .70 or if you need an OS, get the Surpass.
OS really cut there costs on the FL, it is pretty noticable. Look and the prop driver (hole drilled through crank), Carb, and cheap "ABN" sleeve.
There is not onother engine on the market that looks that cheap.

More advice from someone who doesn't own one...

I want to hear more about the great looking green Dr.I in the very first post--what kit or plans? Looks about 1/5 scale? Give us the low down...

Thanks,
Jim

I have a .61 on my Kadet Senior even though the .46 I had would fly it ok. Mine was very tail-heavy and needed the weight anyway. A 91 four-stroke with a low pitched prop would not be out of the question.

What OS was supposed to do, when they designed the .70FL was to offer an entry level four-stroke engine, that would be inexpensive to buy and to own.

Instead, they just made it cheap .

Even the price is only $30, or 14% less than the much better, longer lived, inexpensive maintenance, Surpass II.
It should cost roughly half the Surpass II price, with all its 'cut-backs'.

GAGEEBEES,
That is right, I do not own one. If I thought it was a viable allternative to a cheap four stroke I would have one. Guess what, it appears way to cheaply made for the price they are charging for it. I instead like to purchase Magnums. I would also buy a Surpass .70, but why when the Magnum runs identical and is cheaper to purchase, but does not look like they cut every corner to manufacturer.

I don't believe anyone is qualified to offer advice if they haven't actually tried the product. Motorman's entire basis for advising others not to buy this engine seems to be that it "appears way to [sic] cheaply made..." I don't have any loyalty to OS or any other manufacturer as I own Magnum, Saito, Enya and OS and can buy any engine that I want. My personal experience (as opposed to an opinion based on appearances) is that this engine is a fair value. Granted I only own one but that's one more than a number of other "reviewers".

Gabeegees,
From an engineering stand point it is built very cheap. Come on, drill a hole through the crank to engage the drive washer. I work in engineering for a living, and this has to be the cheapest looking engine I have ever checked out. I too looked at one when they first came out, but ran the other way.
