Dear Robert,
I am finishing an Extreme Flight 68 Yak. AUW will be about 10 lbs. Electric power with about 200 Watts/lb. I have a super-reg with dual 2s 900ma lipos for receiver/servo power. Five Hitec 5945 digital servos. I have a Power-expander but am wondering if it is overkill to use it in a plane this small. I know it is only 2.6 oz. but weight does matter. I am curious what others are doing in planes of this size. I fly at a busy all-electric field with a pretty dirty EMF environment so glitch prevention is a priority. Any advice or observations welcome. Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,
I would say most people are not using a PowerExpander in 50cc size planes. In my 50cc plane I have the SuperReg but no PowerExpander. We are going to come out with some PowerExpanders that have more integrated into them for 50cc planes which will make sense because of the extra integration. I would say to just run two power leads from the SuperReg to the receiver and you will be fine. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Dear Robert,
Thanks for the prompt advice. I am not sure where to run the second power lead - can it go to any un-used channel in the receiver (Futaba 9-channel)? Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,
The power on receivers runs across all channels, there is really no difference between the battery input and the servo outputs as far as power is concerned. So, yes, just plug the second lead into any open slot. This will get more voltage to your servos and give you more torque.
