I have never posted anything here in the giant scale car section before but have read a lot an was inspired by other people's creations. Here is something I built. I know it is A bit crude but it seems to work quite well so far. It uses a water cooled 40 cc pocket bike engine for power. The biggest problem I had was radio glitching problems but a spektrum radio solved that problem.

Very nice indeed! Put the kids inside when they've mis-behaved and take them for a ride! With helmets of course!

Very nice..... Similar to my custom 1/4 scale buggy a few years back. I found it hard to find a large enough area to run. I still have it, but it is stripped of the motor and radio, waiting for me to someday bring it back to life.

Acs_guitars, I believe that it was your buggy that I had seen posted a while back that gave me the Idea. And I do know what you mean about it being hard to find a place large enough to run it. It is a bit large but with the nearly 10 horsepower at about 16000 RPM and the way the powerband hits on this engine the size is needed to keep itself right side up. This thing is not underpowered. To describe how it runs around the yard it is sort of like a KX80 in first or second gear.

It is chain drive. I tried to find the largest #25 sprocket I could for the rear to keep the gear ratio low. The sprocket on the engine is, if I remember right, 5 tooth that came stock on the engine and the rear is 80.

I am glad I have inspired you in your design. How about some up-close pics of your steering and brake set-ups? Steering was one of my biggest obstacles in the design.

The steering is done with two tower hobbies ts-80 servos running on 6 volts. One on each side with a tie rod to each spindle and a rod hooking the two servos together in the middle. Just think of the servo arms being in place of the idler arm and pitman arm of a real car. No servo savers or any other protection. I have banged it around quite a bit and they still work. The plastic servo arms are a bit flexable and I think this gives some protection from breakage. I do have some spares on hand in case of breakage but have not needed them yet. The steering system works pretty well considering the job the servos have to do. I suppose it's stearing action is just a little slower than I would like but it seems just good enough. I am very happy with the results for the price of the servos.

The brake system is just a pocket bike caliper on a disk mounted on the axle. This is also actuated by a TS-80. It seems fine for running around the yard. I would say if I got out in the open and really got moving it may be somewhat lacking in stopping power, but as I said bouncing around in the yard it is fine.

I will get some close up pictures soon.

Looks great. The steering is just about like what I built for mine. I guess that means mine may work too (if I ever get finished). I like the size and scooter motor, very cool. Do you have a differential ? If so, what kind? If not, how's it steer? Keep it up, I like it. Enjoy, MIKE

That thing is huge. Is that a Raco Jackrabbit 1/4 scale sitting next to it looking like a toy? It would be great to see some video of that beast in action...

It has a go kart differential because I wanted to be sure it would steer easily in tight spots.
