Would i be able to out in a 21 or 23 pinion gear with my stock esc? If so, what will each of these do?

They will raise your trucks top speed marginally, but will put a huge amount of strain on the Motor/ESC. Dont do it!!!!! You will also sacrifice almost all of your acceleration.

Lets face the facts here. These Bonzers where never meant for the serious RC officianado.

Those Bonzers are Tamiyas.

For what it is worth, I have the HBX Lancer and the ESC/Receiver combo fried on me today. NOT because I have a 17turn motor with 23t pinion on it but because I hit a small puddle of water and water got inside of the ESC/reciever combo.

I have ran probably 10 battery packs on the 17 turn motor mostly with a 19t pinion but once with 21t pinion and speed tuned gears and twice with stock gears but 23t pinion. None of them damaged the ESC until I hit water.

Just for what its worth since a couple people are saying not to hop these cars up or change pinions etc.

Check some of these pics of my son's HBX Grave Digger Hey loves this truck But Im thinking he is almost ready for something even faster .he has such quick reflex that he just whips this truck around like its nothing . We have been practicing on a make up monster course and he just floors me on how he does .The only problem is that this truck would just get eatn up for lunch and then just spit out like chewing tabbaco. That is why Im looking at a e-maxx or a e-savage or e-zilla leaning alot towards the e-max for the parts availbilty. My Hobby shop has one that is all hop up that was a trade in with all alum parts and running brushless . the whole truck set up is only $675 I think that is one heck of a deal after you add all the hop ups and the motors and everything . We shall see what the wife says . What she doesnt know is that she is getting a flm wide pede hop up complete for herself . Then she can have her on truck to play with us .
Take care all.

No my friend, in this you are mistaken. The Bonzer is a COPY of the Tamiya. A rather good copy, and pretty good value for the money.... But in the end, still a copy!!

Do yourself a favour and go look at a Tamiya TL01B. Look for qaulity of finish, qaulity of materials, little things like that. The qaulity of the little machine screw that hold the suspension to the swing arms...etc etc.

That is why you pay more for the Tamiya, it is not all about the brand name.

Why else do you think so many of us pay the extra money for geniune Tamiya parts? Follow this and the other HBX/Bonzer threads and you will learn a lot about the HBX cars.

Well, the Lancer does not run on the MT sized wheels, so you will be able to run on a larger pinion. My comment regarding the pinion size was based on the assumption that you had a Bonzer. As usual assumption prooves to be the mother of all ***ups.

My Bad!!

Well if Im using the gear calculator correctly it doesnt seem like i can possibly get a better roll out ratio without going way down on pinion.

I just dont understand the Speed Tuned Gears because they make the car more overgeared than it already is.

I think Ill start a thread about them and see if anyone has anything positive to say about them.

I may be wrong but I think the speed tuned gears are designed to be used with the TL-01 street cars with small street wheels. Using them in off-road applications would almost certainly result in over-gearing due to the larger wheel diameters.

Has anybody noticed how off balance these stock wheels/tires are? Will this result in premature bearing wear? If so, are there any easy balancing tricks?

my stock tires were gone after 6 packs worth of parking lot bashing in my lancer haha. got new aftermarket ones and car is a world different

I accomplished my speed tuned gear explanation via Lunchboxer... they are not good with my 17t motor basically they are made for the 27T or 23T SS motors.

You can fit either of the Tamiya Oil damper options. Myself I am rather partial
