Hi!

I gotta big question, but first I will let you in on my experiment.

I want to set my Tmaxx up with built-on 7.2v pack using NiMh AA's instead of regular C cells. The lighter AA's would be better for me but I dont know what I can use to charge them... I currently have a NiCad 9.6 pack in my TX which I charge normally with the 9.6 charger. I am wondering if it would be fine to charge 6 AA's with the same charger... If all I need is 6 Ni-Cad AA's instead of NiMh, then thats ok too but I would like to use the NiMh's. I did have the 7.2v C-cell pack on the maxx but it destroyed my rear bulkhead when I hit a curb at low speed, hence the reason I want to go with AA's.

Oh, and I dont plan on having all the batteries in the same pack, I was thinking 4 and 2 or 3 and 3 split with a harnass in between. The reason I want to get the 7.2v is the range I get is fenominal, plus the longer run times, I get all day in on the 7.2 and not even 3 hours with the OEM 4-AA pack.

Secondly, I have a friend that just bought the venom 1200mah "hump pack" with an "expert electronics" dual RX/TX charger that only charges @50mah. The battery was charged for 18 hours before first use and only lasted 20 minutes! Now when I goto the venom site, they say its no good to charge there packs below 1.0A... The venom pack and charger where both bought at the same store and recomended by the hobby store owner... What is the correct charge rate for this battery?

(Check link for info, battery PT# VEN-1501)

(Check here for info on charger)

Thankx all!

Either your 9.6 or your friends rx/tx charger will charge AA x 6 cells nimh. The time will depend upon rate and capacity needed. The run-time should also be determined by the capacity of cells.

20 minutes for a 1200 sure seems low and was because the 1200 was not fully charged in 18 hrs at 50 ma. The rate isn't so important as the total charge. It should take about 5 days to charge the 1200 with 50 ma. A 1 amp rate will charge in around 1.2 hrs.

Humm, is my math not working?? 50 ma charge = 120 hrs (5 days) and 1000 ma (1 amp) = 1.5 hours??? Don't seem quite right. Am I wrong??

I'm not real good at "higher math"

1200/1000 = 1.2 hrs

So theres no difference between the NiCad and NiMh chargers? Im gonna use 6 x 2300mAh Ni-Mh Sanyo AA's, so I can charge them with my 7.2v or 9.6v charger?

Thankx for the charge info, I was confused for a while, now it makes sence, lol.

On a non-peak detect charger it will not know the difference between nicad and nimh. Just will have to measure or know the current and then do the math.

Yes, it would charge 1200 per day and may only be about 3 days or so. a c/25 charge rate might even be able to be left on a very long time. There's a certain rate that can be left on indefinately, I think it may be c/50?
