Hey Guys, Its soon that time to get a new plane underway for next year. It will definetely be a carden 40% but not sure what one I want to get built!?! Im looking for the plane that will be the best for Imac type stuff and yet 3D really good. But for this one imac is better because thats the reason I want to get a new plane. I still have my Edge for the 3D stuff.
Im leaning toward the Yak 54, but also considering the 260, 330, and 300L. I didnt get to fly any imac in 06 because i was working weekend shift but i will be weekday now.
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Good to hear you're still flying carden doesn't make a 300L I'm guessing you meant the new 300. I've been lucky to have flown the 330, 260 and yak and here are my personal views.

330 - Best looking scale aerobatic airplane I've ever seen (IMO). It hammers a little easier than the 260 and needs a little more elev. and ailer. to rudder mix than the 260 or yak.

260 - snaps better than any airplane I've flown and it is very neutral. Rudder is very strong which makes rollers easier to do.

Yak - Very similar to the 260 but because of it's enormous side area it needs even less rudder than the 330 or the 260 during rollers and point rolls. The yak is a little harder to build but not much.

300 - Has not flown yet but I think by having the same wing as the 260 and a bigger canopy like the yak that it should have all the good qualities of both, I hope. LOL

Remenber some airplanes look so good that you can overlook any small bad habits but some airplanes are so ugly that no matter how good they fly you can never get passed their looks, so buy the one you " must have ".

Good luck
Albert

I've owned the 330 and fly a 260 now. The 260 is almost perfectly neutral! I fly mine without
any mixes, but as Albert said the 330 requires a little. Personally I like the way the 330
would fly 3D, but the 260 is still good! Hard choice.

I have also had the pleasure of flying all of the 40% Carden's, and am currently working on the new 300. I would have to say so far I would rate them for IMAC as:

yak
260
330

Cap
Edge

The Gap indicates a performance jump. That said The top 3, the main diffrence in contest performance will be knowing the plane / building it straight.

Any...ANY Carden is going to keep you in the winners circle if you put the time into practicing with it. So pick the one you like best, and learn it!

I cannot wait for my 300... I am sure Albert and I will be saying a lot more when we have flown them...

Let me also add:

The Yak does rollers slightly better...

The 260 snaps slightly better...

The 330 Hammers slightly better...(and looks hot)

The Edge does Point rolls (esp. 2 point) rolls better...

Some people would say the cap looks the best, the biggest disadvantage to the cap is the coupling with rudder. (but it is the best tumbler.)

I would have to say there is less that a 2% difference in the top 3.

Well what the heck: Having built "all" of them I would rate them this way. The Cap is the easiest to build then the Giles, and the Yak the hardest. The 330/260/300 and of course the faithful 540 other than subtle difference's in the canopy are the same. I'd do the 330, got to be the prettiest plane of the bunch. They all fly like crap with me flying them. nevermind, Walt

As much as I wanted a new Carden for this flying season, I went Composite-ARF 3.3 Yak 55. Im trading my Hangar 9 Ultimate + cash for it.
I already have a 1/3scale J3 Cub on the building table already, so maybe next year i'll build one.
I still have the Carden Giles 300 for sale, anyone wants it, $3000 RTF, it has to go, I dont have the room or time for 3 40%ers. The Edge and the Yak will keep me occupied.
