I am tired of paying $15-20 for fuel. This stuff sholdn't cost us this much. The ingrediedents aren't that expensive. Can we form a group somehow and bypass these robbers that are taking our money? If it keeps going up I am tempted to leave my beloved glow engines and go gas. If you know of something we can do lets hear it. I have checked with manufacturers and all I can see is that if you pick it up yourself and save the shipping etc. it would be cheaper but who can drive half way across the country. Blending yourself only would save a buck or two. I think straight alcahol fuel would be lower but we would have to change our engines to run that.

I bought klotz oil and mixed my own without nitro-methane. Even buying the nitro would save some money.

All engines run perfectly well on straight (zero nitro) fuel so there's no need to change anything. I mix my own and (doing a quick conversion) it costs about US$9 a gallon. An added benefit of zero nitro is that the engines are more economical which means you'll get more flying time from that $9 than you would with nitro.

Most folks down here mix their own fuel.

We pay US$3.50 per us-gal for methanol and if you use a *good* quality oil you can get by with 15%. The stuff I"m using now costs around US$35 a gal and, at 15% you only need US$4.50 worth of oil in each gal -- that's US$8.00 all-up.

I also use a little nitro (5% in my 2-strokes and 10% in my 4-strokes). That comes to US$2.50 and US$5.00 respectively.

So the total price for my fuel is $10.50 for 5% and $13.00 for 10%.

Now compare this to the NZ hobby-shop price of US$35 per US gal for 10% nitro and you'll see why most of us make our own!

Nitro is the big problem. If you buy 15% and cut it 3 ways all you need is meth and oil. This 5% will work fine. Shipping is the big problem. If you drove a big brown truck I am sure you would not want 1/2 you packages to be explosive or flamable.

He he, you guys crack me up You think fuel is expensive? I would gladly sacrifice an arm AND a leg to get fuel at 12-15 $ a gallon of 15%. Here in Norway a gallon of 15% is about 42$ and no one I know have ever tried the 30% nitro 24% oil coolpower helistuff, just out of reach economically

Well I have just mixed up a batch just for fun. I purchased Methanol for $3 a gallon and Klots Super Techno Plante from Tower for $9 a quart. After mixing and calculating a gallon of zero nitro cost me around $10. I can buy 15% nitro premixed Magnum fuel for $14 I may cut some with this 15% to add some nitro. But over all I am not happy at $10.

Does anyone know of cheaper source of oil? $9 a quart is mighty expensive for me.

I don't know if you've ever ran any Wild Cat Fuels, but you can order direct from the factory. We get a bunch of guys together and order 20-25 cases at a time. This last batch we got, 15 nitro, 18 oil was $11.29/gallon shipped..........I think you can go up to like 60 cases for the same price on the shipping.

You can also buy oil from Morgan Fuel, and Fox Mfg. You won't find it one either companies web site you will have to call. You can find several Morgans mix of all synthetic and castor/syn mix from Tommy's Karts, not sure of the web site. If you are buying fuel from VP racing they also sell castor oil. Klotz is the most expensive source.

$3 a gallon for meth is fair unless your prepared to buy a 55gal drum to get it to $2 Somewhere in MS a kart dealer has gals of oil at $20 to get you down to about $7.50 a gal. Buy the $14 15% to get nitro and cut it to 3 gallons. You will be happy with 5% or have your LHS get 5% for you and that might drop the price to $10.

I think straight Ethanol might work, but e-85 has gasoline in it and maybe niether one will work for glows.

On another forum, a fellow who mixes his own fuel says he uses castor oil he gets in gallons from a horse supply place. Apparently they rub it on horse's hooves or something.

I think I have seen a post of someone using it on a gas igniton engine. It should work on glow if you used an onboard ignitor.

Time to get friendly at your local sprint car race track, those cars go thru about 30-40 gal. of methanol a night, i'm sure they are getting it for less $, then it's time to head to the NHRA dragstrip and see if you can get the nitro for less $ as once again those nitro funny cars go thru a lot of nitro in a weekend. Bulk is better

Sprint cars in Mississippi? Nope, just Nascar and dirt track stock cars. Nascar is gas only. Maybe some of the modified dirt tract racers use methanol?
