Hi,

I would like to purchase a flight simulator but im being offered it in either mode 1 or 2 and i dont know what is most common. I dont want to end up learnin to fly on a controller that i cant use when it comes to actually flying out in the field.

I live in the UK dont know if this makes a difference...

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

Mode 1 has throttle on the right. Mode 2 has throttle on the left. If you have a local flying club, ask them which to get. Most likely it will be Mode 1 in the UK but you need to find out what's used by the people who will be helping you.

I agree, that you should check nwith the club you are going to join, but I have been to 5 clubs/groups were mode 2 is most usually flown.

G'day Mate,
I don't know about UK, but here in Australia, mode 1 is the most common, in USA mode 2 is the most common. By all means check with clubs in your area, but it is also a personal thing, I fly mode 1 myself, because I find it the most comfortable to fly aerobatics with, & also it is easier to teach students, on mode 1, I am an instructor.
The split sticks help when teaching, as I can fly using the elevators & rudder, on one stick, while the student has throttle & ailerons on the other stick, I still have control of the aircraft if they over control, this is only for the first few flights, of course, but it does help.

How do you define a normal person?

As mentioned above, go with whichever mode is prevalent at your club, or the club you plan to join. It is a beech when you are on a mode which is not familiar at your club. I fly both mode 1 & 2. I learned mode 2 when I started in the US, but when I moved to South Africa, mode 1 was more common at the clubs. I switched to mode 1 so I could help newbie pilots as an instructor. There are advantages and disadvantages with either. There is very little, if any, real difference in reality. Look at what modes are in use by the worlds top pilots. From watching their flying you can't tell what mode they are using. It takes practice, is all.

Safe Flying!

From what I have seen, here in the UK the tendancy seems to be Mode 2 for Heli's, Mode 1 for Aero ( Mind you, that's going by the JR 10X which comes either as Aero version or as a Heli version)

Can anyone help me.
I have just bought a mode 2 controller to replace an old Mode 2 Parkzone job. However, I am having probs getting the right sticks to work for my preferences. At the moment I have throttle on left, but also aileron ison the left, and elevator on right. I've got a triangle wing F27 so no rudder.
What I want is all directional movement on the right stick.
Do I need to swap any of the connectors around on the RX and if so which one?

Hi Robertdownes25,

What brand is your Radio and does it have programable firmware in it? It is Heli or Airplane?

Take for example, Futaba 9C (that I using). By manufacturer default the sticks had been configuration either to Mode 1 or Mode 2 but in the system firmware allows additional 2 modes for you to change.

But in you case, if possible change the program from mode 2 to mode 1 thus will require to swap the throttle detent mechanism and the centering mechanism (refer to the spring tension) from left to right side stick.

No wiring connectors to be remove as to avoid bad connection.

Hope this shade some light for you.

Regards
Jnjong
