Hi Everyone, got the heads up from dieFluggeister and I'm ready!

Haven't flown 1/2A for a really long time so it would be a nice change! Lemme know what I need to do when!

Hi guys, also got the call from dieFluggeister & am awaiting further instructions. To be truthful I had forgotten all about the project & had bad experiences from another postal plane project so his PM was a surprise. Must go, have 17 pages to catch up on! - John.

likewise

been quite a while and sadly im not sure i can participate anymore, shipping to the UK will be rather pricey and you will get b*ggered for VAT on the item, VAT on the shipping, then VAT on the lot and i dont think i can afford to take it on and ship it back out to the next person on the roster

i hate to be the bringer of bad news, but i will watch this thread with interest

- Steve

While postage from the US is one thing, postage between other contries is proving to be a challenge. I have been talking with some of our overseas legs and it is different everywhere.

One thing I might suggest is check postage to the next pilot after you so there are no surprises. Then check with your RC club or flying buddies and see if you could sponsor a leg of the journey as a team. That way Grace gets more participants and the costs are spread out across the group.

The last thing I want is it to cost an arm and a leg for anyone. I know we all completely understand if the shipping just is too much to participate. After all, that money could be spent on SureStarts and balsa!

Oh, and everyone should be signing the box, or putting a decal on Grace! Please let others know you were there!

Just noticed Wild Foamy's post after I sent dF a PM. I'm sure I can suck in a few of my mates to be participants & share the cost of the postage for the next leg. - John.

trouble is there are only about 5 of my club members i see regularly, thats Me, Laurie the admin, Bob and Rob (we are only a rural club afterall) but i will ask laurie and see what he thinks

is there nobody else in england taking part?

EDIT: i just had a brainfart, it would be cheaper and alot less hastle for me if it went to somebody in perhaps new york or somewere else in the NE of the USA before me, shipping from england to australia would be expensive and time consuming methink.

just a thought...

I checked postage to Japan, Singapore, Australia and the UK and they all cost around $150 by airmail or $90 by surface, give or take $10. If the box were 25cm shorter it would only cost $8 for airmail or $5 by surface. What crazy postage prices.

Yikes! Bipe Flyer, that is fearsome!

What is the size/weight of the box? If its manageable, perhaps we could ship it to fliers travelling between the US and the rest of the world. For e.g., I happened to be in the US last month and could perhaps have lugged it back with me.

Otherwise, its looking like this project will have to be confined to North America!

32" X 9" X 9" I haven't weighed it, but it is quite light, so the shipping is charged as an oversize item - in Canada at least.

The post office told me that the international small packet prices are set by what the countries with poorest economies can afford, so that is why it would only be $8 for a small packet. Unfortunately, despite the fact that there seems to be an international agreement to keep small packet prices low, it appears that they can't agree on what the dimensions are for a small packet.

I think for now I should either ship it back to Mike, or the next person in NA on the list. If the box qualifies as a small packet in the US then it may be best place from which to ship overseas.

Just my opinion here but why not let it make the rounds in Canada first.

Meanwhile we can come up with a more suitable size box. I think Mike did an awsome job with the one we use now but with a little more foam, coroplast, and duct tape another box can be had quite reasonably.
Also a little scheduling for the guys who cross continental lines for business might be a potential trick too.

Sounds Great!!!!......how about Herr Engineering Cloud Ranger, built "full house", Norvel power.
I think most pilots could handle it, and would be easy to repair!

Uhhmmm... SR, ya might want to go back to the beginning and do a little reading.

The model's name is GRACE and she has already been a year into her tour.

Well, I'm going to need an address of someone in NA pretty quick. I'm leaving on vacation soon, so I'll only have Tues or Wed to mail it.

Bipe, as much as it pains me to say it, I think we will have to hold on any overseas shipping until we can figure out this a cheaper way to move Grace around. PM Shotgun06 in Manitoba and see if he can take her. I see he just posted today.

Lets finish up the Canadian tour and then we can re-evaluate how to get her overseas. Sorry for now my worldwide participants, but I will do my best to get her out to you!

glad to see dF is re-evaluating the situation

perhaps it would be better to stop all new entrants from joining this current tour, and sign them up on the next one, that way newcomers can still join in but we can actually plot a rational geographical path for GRACE (instead of having her go to one side of the U
